‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’ are the most highly-awaited MCU projects. While not much is known about the plot of the movies, we can assume that ‘Time Runs Out’ and ‘Secret Wars’ storylines will be loosely adapted.
The Multiverse is in peril and it seems that incursions are to blame. Even though Doctor Doom is being set up as the main villain, the circumstances of his involvement with the whole affair are still unknown.
Doctor Strange is also seemingly involved to a great extent as some past rumors pointed in the direction of him being responsible for incursions and by extension for the collapse of the Multiverse.
During his December AMA, Alex Perez of Cosmic Circus seemingly revealed some plot points for the upcoming movies and the whole Multiversal collapse.
Perez is saying that Doctor Doom has always been a central figure in the story, but the real focus will be on the idea that in the multiverse, anything can happen. The movie will explore who is truly responsible for the state of the Multiverse — could it be Kang, his variants, or someone else?
Perez mentions that the blame may be shifted onto Doctor Strange, with the story portraying him as the common factor in the multiversal incursions. The films will show Strange trying to reject the idea that all versions of him are doomed to destroy the universe, instead focusing on him choosing to save it.
It’s Doom. It’s always been Doom. But the theme that, I think, will resonate here is that, in a multiverse of endless possibilities, anything is possible and nothing is set in stone. Just because something happens consistently in every universe, it doesn’t mean that it’s bound to happen in yours. The film will focus on who exactly is to blame for the current state of the Multiverse.
Was it Kang? Was it his variants? Was it someone else? What I’m hearing is that they’re going to try and shift the blame on Doctor Strange, and it’s a motif that’s been building up for a while now. I’ve explained it before in my previous articles and Q/As, but the idea is to make Strange the common denominator when it comes to incursions. And a good part of these films is Strange trying to reject that notion that All Stranges are meant to doom the universe, by making him the one who chooses to save it.

This is quite an interesting theory, and if the story plays out like in ‘Secret Wars’ Doom’s motives for involvement might not be entirely villainous in nature as he will attempt to save the reality in his own twisted, selfish, and flawed way.
This is also something that Downey himself hinted at during his Doctor Doom reveal as the actor said “different mask, same task.” Depending on how you look at this statement it might imply that RDJ will have the same task of saving reality but will do so under a different mask.
There’s also that scene from ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ where Clea clearly states that Strange’s actions have caused incursions and now they both have to fix it. It’s entirely possible that the movies will in fact try to push the narrative that Strange was to blame all along.
