‘Doctor Strange’ #1 Isn’t Really a ‘One World Under Doom’ Tie-In—But NYX #9 Is!

Marvel’s One World Under Doom event is taking over comics, but not every issue labeled as a tie-in actually plays a big role in the storyline. This week, Doctor Strange of Asgard #1 was released as an official crossover, but surprisingly, it has almost nothing to do with the event. Meanwhile, NYX #9, which isn’t listed as a tie-in, actually plays a major part in the unfolding story.

Doctor Strange of Asgard #1 was promoted as part of One World Under Doom, but in reality, it barely connects to the event. The only reference to Doctor Doom’s rule is Doctor Strange acknowledging that Doom has taken his title as Sorcerer Supreme. Beyond that, the story doesn’t touch on Doom’s control over Midgard or any major developments in the event.

It’s even less connected than Weapon X-Men #1, which at least mentioned One World Under Doom in a single panel. If you’re looking for big event moments in this issue, you won’t find them.

On the other hand, NYX #9 is not officially labeled as a One World Under Doom crossover, but it actually has important ties to the event. The issue is mainly part of the X-Manhunt crossover, but it also explores Doom’s growing control over New York.

In NYX #9, we see the effects of Doom’s rule firsthand. The Krakoan Treehouse has been turned into a locked-down quarantine zone holding the powerful Krakoan Seed. This was hinted at in Fall of X and a recent Timeslide storyline. The comic also reveals that even the New York police now follow Doom’s orders.

If you’re following One World Under Doom closely, NYX #9 gives you far more insight into Doom’s rule than Doctor Strange of Asgard #1. While Doctor Strange may have the label, it doesn’t deliver much. Meanwhile, NYX actually moves the story forward.

So, if you’re picking up comics for One World Under Doom, don’t skip NYX #9. It might not have the official branding, but it’s a much more important read than Doctor Strange of Asgard #1.
