Sony Pictures is still trying to make something out of their Sony Spider-Man Universe, even though the first three movies they released have not fulfilled their full potential. Even though it was a box-office success, the original Venom movie received a pretty lukewarm critical response, and its sequel wasn’t much of an improvement. Still, both Venom movies were a lot more successful than that critical and commercial failure called Morbius, but that isn’t much of a consolation.

While Morbius ultimately killed any chances for a sequel, the Venom franchise is still very much alive. While we still don’t know when Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock will return, we know he will eventually, as Sony Pictures is actively developing the third installment of the Venom franchise. We have recently learned that filming is set to begin in less than a month, and the movie just got a new cast member.

Doctor Strange star joins the third Venom movie!

According to Deadline, Chiwetel Ejiofor has officially joined Tom Hardy in the upcoming threequel of the Venom franchise. His role still remains undisclosed. This won’t be the first comic book movie for the British actor since he’s also known for the role of Karl Mordo from 2016’s Doctor Strange and its 2022 sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Ejiofor is also known for starring in critically acclaimed movies, such as 12 Years of Slave (for which he was nominated for the Academy Award) and Ridley Scott’s The Martian.

Venom 3 is set to be directed by Kelly Marcel in her directorial debut. She wrote two previous Venom movies, and she’s also writing the third one from a story she wrote with Hardy. Apart from Ejiofor, Juno Temple has also recently closed the deal to join the upcoming movie, but her role also remains unknown at this time.

Apart from Venom 3, Sony Pictures is also working on upcoming movies Kraven the Hunter, Madame Webb, and El Muerto. Kraven the Hunter will be Sony’s first-ever R-rated superhero movie. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the Kraven the Hunter movie is set to hit theaters next October. The official release date for Venom 3 is still TBA.
