Does Nick Fury Have a Daughter? (Comics & MCU)

All versions of Nick Fury are interesting. Since the original Fury’s appearance in the 1960s, the character has changed many times in the last few decades, especially in the 2000s, when Marvel Comics had to find a way to refresh their characters. Marvel Cinematic Universe helped with this idea by propelling Fury’s character to the big screen portrayed by famous actor Samuel L. Jackson. The actor’s amazing portrayal of the character awarded him with being more similar to his comic book version, and frankly, the writers really worked around that idea. As we know, Nick Fury Sr. has a son, Nick Fury Jr., who is following his father’s legacy as the S.H.I.E.L.D. spy, while MCU’s version of the character is still mysterious, and we barely know about his life. But does any version of Nick Fury has a daughter?
Nick Fury Sr. never had a daughter in Marvel comics – he had a son, Mikel Fury, and Nick Fury Jr. The younger Fury doesn’t have children at all in the comics, while the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Nick Fury never revealed if he had children – we only know that he has a wife named Priscilla, whom we will most likely meet in the ‘Secret Invasion’ series. There was a fan theory that Michelle Jones could be Nick Fury’s daughter in the MCU, but that was discussed in 2019 and, at this point, is probably forgotten.
In Nick Fury Sr.’s 100 years of life, he had two sons, but his counterpart in the Marvel Cinematic Universe didn’t reveal his background yet, which spiked some fan theories about Michelle Jones being his secret daughter. Of course, we will discuss both characters’ lives and determine if one of them truly had a daughter in their lives.
Nick Fury Sr. has two sons in the Marvel comics
Nick Fury Sr. was born just after World War I. He grew up in New York City and eventually enlisted in the army for his first mission in his professional career – the Spanish Civil War.
Fury proved himself to be an amazing soldier and eventually joined the U.S. Army, his friends, and national heroes to fight in World War II. However, Fury suffered major injuries that almost got him killed.
After Infinity Formula saves his life, Fury eventually joins the intelligence government agency C.I.A., where he meets Nia Johnson, a fellow agent. They have an affair, and Nia gets pregnant. Fury deals with Nia to relocate and change her surname so that she and their unborn child don’t target them.
Of course, as we know, this led to Marcus Johnson being born and eventually growing to enlist in the U.S. Army, go on tours to Iraq and Afghanistan, and eventually meet Nick Fury, his biological father.
After the event that has seen Marcus’ mother dying and Fury telling his son the whole truth, we see Marcus taking his legal name and continuing his father’s legacy as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent; Nick Fury Jr. is born.
However, Junior isn’t the only child of Nick Fury. During the 1990s, Nick Fury realizes he is being hunted by his own son, Mikel Fury, whom he got with Amber D’Alexis. Amber trained her son to become the assassin Scorpio, to hunt Nick Fury and kill him. Mikel has a change of heart, realizing that his mother tricked him, and eventually joins S.H.I.E.L.D. and even becomes the president of his home country, Carpasia.
After being involved in the hunt for Punisher and eventually being expelled from S.H.I.E.L.D., Mikel joins his father’s Secret Warriors, where he is set as the leader of the special forces. Unfortunately, during the conflict between Hydra and Leviathan, in which HYDRA split into two groups – Gorgon and Kraken. Mikel and his team, called Caterpillars, need to infiltrate the Hydra H.I.V.E. and destroy it. In the efforts to do so, Mikel and his team sacrifice for the cause.
Apart from two sons, Nick Fury Sr. never had a daughter. The closest younger woman in his life is his right-hand woman and fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill, but that’s about it.
What about Marvel Cinematic Universe? Does Nick Fury have a daughter?
Nick Fury from Marvel Cinematic Universe has a mysterious past that made some fans think of new theories
Nick Fury from Marvel Cinematic Universe is still a mysterious figure to the viewers. We know that he was born in Alabama in 1950 and has been a soldier, a CIA agent, and a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent/spy who eventually became agencies director.
However, in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ we see Fury mentioning his wife in the scene when he appears in Steve Rogers’ apartment. That scene occurs after the realization that Hydra compromises S.H.I.E.L.D., and Fury uses coded speech to tell Rogers everyone is listening.
Since then, we barely heard anything about Fury’s family life, but that didn’t stop fans from speculating about his mysterious background. In 2019, we got two movies important for Nick Fury’s character – ‘Captain Marvel’ and ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home.’
‘Captain Marvel’ reveals more details about Fury’s life, birth date, youth, hometown, and professional life. We never heard if we had children, which one Reddit user wanted to connect to the fact that Zendaya’s Michelle Jones in ‘Spider-Man’ movies is indeed Fury’s secret daughter.
Michelle Jones, or simply M.J., is a strange young woman. She is private, not very impressionable, barely anything can surprise her or shock her, and she is simply really aloof to her surroundings. Frankly, she is observant, which correlates with her being quiet – she even goes to detention and draws other students.
The Reddit user had a whole post relaying why M.J. is indeed Fury’s daughter, including her creeping up on people, being anti-government, and generally having similar behavior cues as Nick Fury. However, that theory was never confirmed, and despite the fan having some valid arguments, the simple explanation for her character being like that is because MCU loves writing young, rebellious women.
In the past, we saw a lot of aloof, comic-relief characters, especially in the superhero genre, but that character trope started making its way into the creation of female characters.
So no, I don’t believe M.J. is Nick Fury’s daughter, meaning we still don’t know if the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. has any children. It seems that the casting of Fury’s wife, Priscilla, in the upcoming ‘Secret Invasion’ will reveal some more details about Nick Fury’s life, and maybe we finally find out if he has any children.
Fury has so-called surrogate daughters in MCU, with Maria Hill and Monica Rambeau working with the man for years, but that’s about it.
What do you think will happen in the ‘Secret Invasion’ series? Will we finally find out about Nick Fury’s life and if he has any secret children? Let us know in the comments below.
