Don Cheadle Gives Concerning Update on ‘Armor Wars’ — The Key to Fixing Controversial ‘Secret Invasion’ Twist

Share:

The latest project in which Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes appeared in the MCU was ‘Secret Invasion,’ which is almost unanimously agreed to be one of the worst MCU shows. The storyline is based extremely loosely on the comic storyline under the same name but holds almost no appeal or intrigue that the comics did.

During the events of the show, we find out that Rhodey whom we’ve seen in the last couple of projects wasn’t really a human. You see Skrulls developed a special technology that is able to keep humans in some kind of coma while Skrulls mimic them and directly steal their memories.

Rhodes was presumably targeted due to the fact that he is close to the White House and several important superheroes. When Talos’ daughter Gi’ah saved Rhodey, he was at that point a Skrull likely since the events of ‘Captain America: Civil War.’

Fans hated that plot twist and it’s been met with mixed reviews. Now Don Cheadle himself commented on both the twist and the show/movie that was supposed to explain that twist in a bit more detail.

‘Armor Wars’ was envisioned as a film based on the comic storyline of the same name. It was intended to follow ‘Secret Invasion’ (which came out last year) and ‘Ironheart’ (Set to be released in 2025). Back in 2011, Don Cheadle confirmed that a War Machine film was in the works and that Joe Robert Cole had been hired to write it.

Nine years later, during Disney’s 2020 Investor Day, it was announced that ‘Armor Wars’ would be developed as a television series for Disney+, with Don Cheadle set to reprise his role as James Rhodes. In 2021, Cheadle also mentioned that production would begin in a few months.

Then the show was transformed into a movie yet again, with uncertain production or release date. A few weeks ago, we received news that the studio will decided on the fate of the project alongside ‘Blade’ in a few months. If these rumors are true, ‘Armor Wars’ and ‘Blade’ might never see the light of day.

Cheadle recently talked to TV Line and the first thing he was asked was the status of the upcoming ‘Armor Wars.’

You can find out and let me know.

Cheadle also commented on the fact that the project switched from a series into a movie yet again:

Yeah. I think the word that’s the most salient in that sentence is “switched.” [Laughs] I don’t know, I’m not sure where anything is right now. I think things are going through a lot of changes, and we’ll see what happens, we’ll see what it is

The actor also commented on the polarizing reveal that he was a Skrull all along:

Uh… you know, there was no… it wasn’t a demand. It was a request. “What do you think about playing this?” And it was to set up stuff in the following thing. So, if the following thing happens, and all those things were set up, then that’s one thing. If, as you said, it doesn’t, then we can talk about how I feel about it after!

As you can see, the only way for that ‘Secret Invasion’ twist to be even remotely redeemed is if we see ‘Armor Wars.’ What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
