‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’ Won’t Be Filmed Back to Back, and There Are Perfectly Good (Two) Reasons for That

Out of all MCU projects, fans are naturally most excited about the two upcoming ‘Avengers’ installments – ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars.’ Little is known about the productions of the movies and their respectable plots but we can assume that they are going to adapt the ‘Times Runs Out’ storyline and ‘Secret Wars’ events.

RDJ is returning to the MCU but not as Iron Man, as Doctor Doom, and he will play the central role in this multiversal conflict.

During the recent NYCC, the Russo brothers discussed the upcoming movies and revealed one interesting thing. ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’ won’t be filmed back to back like ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’ were filmed:

Joe Russo: It’ll be similar, but we’ll have a larger break in between the two movies than we did. I think it was four weeks maybe? Was it four weeks between Infinity War and Endgame?

Anthony Russo: I think it was a couple of weeks. But no, these are not as separated as you would normally separate two films of this scale, but they’re more substantially separated [than Infinity War and Endgame] by a year or so.

There will be a year-long break between filming for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’. ‘Doomsday’ is set to start filming in Spring 2025, with a release date in May 2026. The separation between these two films has fans excited for the MCU’s Phase 6, as it may help develop big theories about the Multiverse Saga and how it adapts the ‘Secret Wars’ storyline from the comics.

We can theorize several reasons for this big break, and currently, the most likely theory is that two movies are supposed to come in between, notably ‘Spider-Man 4’ and ‘Doctor Strange 3.’

‘Spider-Man 4’ was reportedly supposed to be a street-level story before it was announced that RDJ is returning as Doom. The movie then pivoted to being a Multiversal story.

Nothing is known about the plot of the movie except for various rumors and speculations that involve plenty of villains, including Knull and Symbiotes.

Now all of these rumors are unlikely to be true, but the theory that ‘Spider-Man 4’ will touch on the relationship between Iron Man and Spider-Man and the implications for Peter’s relationship with Doom are likely to come true.

The second project likely to come in between ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’ is ‘Doctor Strange 3.’ Even before the new movie “entered development” it’s been rumored that Doctor Strange will be the most important MCU character for the Multiverse Saga.

This makes sense considering that Doctor Strange was the first character in the MCU related to both the Multiverse and the incursions.

According to the most recent rumors, Strange is going to prove vital for the destiny of the Multiverse. Doctor Strange has been sought by a multiversal organization called the Black Priests, of which Clea (played by Charlize Theron) is a member.

The headquarters of the Black Priests is located in the Nothing Space of Destroyed Universes, a realm that exists between the remnants of two dead universes caused by an incursion.

Strange is summoned by the Black Priests, who operate within the multiverse and it’s revealed that the multiverse is about to be destroyed, the event can be linked to a series of incursions.

The most recent disruption was triggered by Doctor Strange himself, which aligns with the sequel’s exploration of his unintentional role as a potential threat to the stability of the multiverse, a concept briefly touched upon in the previous film.

Even if Spider-Man 4 has somewhat looser connections to upcoming ‘Avengers installments, this is clearly not the case for ‘Doctor Strange 3.’ What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
