Although she was introduced later in the story and started out as a villain, Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch, has become one of the most popular and beloved characters in the MCU, with one of the best storylines in the franchise.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness appeared to close the chapter on Wanda’s story, as her character seemingly died. While Agatha All Along hinted at this, the series chose to use the word “gone” instead of “died” when referring to Wanda. Meanwhile, there have been many rumors about her possible return.

The actress has expressed her desire to return, but the situation surrounding Wanda remains unclear. However, her recent comments suggest that she might be coming back to the role at some point, even though no one is able to confirm anything!

As mentioned, Wanda seemingly dies in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. After WandaVision, Wanda starts researching the Darkhold and via the cursed book figures out how to reunite with her presumably destroyed children.

The only way to reunite with them is through an alternate universe, but for that, she needs America Chavez’s powers. Wanda ultimately starts targeting the girl, and Doctor Strange realizes that attacks on America are connected to Wanda.

By the end of the movie, Wanda realizes that her race against destiny is futile and that Darkhold has turned her into something that no one, including her kids, can’t love. She collapses the temple on top of her, destroying the Darkhold spells carved into the temple’s walls and by extension- destroying every possible Darkhold copy in existence.

In Agatha All Along, a corpse resembling Wanda is shown, suggesting that she is indeed dead. However, the series deliberately used the word “gone” instead of “died,” a choice confirmed by the show’s crew. This implies that Wanda may not actually be dead, leaving open the possibility of her return in the future.

This aligns with the recent rumors we’ve reported on, although they have been quite inconsistent. At first, there were reports of a solo Scarlet Witch movie in development, with ideas ranging from a prequel to a tie-in with the upcoming Avengers films.

Soon after, those plans were said to be scrapped. Meanwhile, rumors about Wanda having a significant role in Doomsday and Secret Wars began to circulate, but the situation remains unclear.

During a recent Q&A, Elizabeth Olsen was asked about Wanda’s return, and the actress may have provided some clarity on the matter:

“Well, honestly, if I were to tell you exactly what I would want I think I would maybe be spoiling something. Kevin Feige genuinely asks us what we want to do with the character and then he does it [Laughs] so I don’t know if I can share…I just want to come back.”

This aligns with what we’ve been hearing—there are rumors, but nothing can be confirmed at this time. Regarding Olsen, she genuinely wants to return because of her strong connection to the character, as her statements reveal:

It’s a character I love going back to when there’s a way to use her
well and I think I’ve been lucky when I started I was used well, and
they kind of didn’t know what to do with me for a second there! If
there’s a good way to use her, I’m always happy to come back. (…) I
think so. I assume as much. Yeah, and there was a red light of explosive
energy. I think I’m dead.

I would beg to leave a window open. I had so much fun doing these movies. I would like to figure out how to cleverly be undead. We need to find the smartest writers to figure out how to make this all make sense. I’m open to ideas.
