For fans of the MCU, Elizabeth Olsen is best known for portraying Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch. She first appeared as the character in Captain America: The Winter Soldier back in 2014, meaning she has been playing the role for over a decade. Her most recent appearance was a voice role in What If…? The Avengers Assembled in 1602.

Although Scarlet Witch’s fate in the MCU remains uncertain—she is presumed dead at the moment. The rumors are loud that she will be back in one way or another, but at this point nothing has been confirmed.

The actress voiced the character for the upcoming Marvel Zombies mini-series, but that is hardly what fans are expecting from the character.

Recently, Olsen spoke with Collider’s Christina Radish while promoting The Assessment. During the interview, she shared her thoughts on playing Wanda and whether she might return to the role in the future. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to portray the character for such a long period and reflected on how unique that experience has been.

When Radish pointed out how rare it is for an actor to play a single character for so many years in different ways, Olsen responded: “It’s really unusual. It’s something that’s been incredible. I assume it’s how people feel when they when they get to do a TV show for a long time. To be able to return to a character and continue to move them forward has been so much fun for me, especially because they gave me something like WandaVision to really blow it all up. And from there, Doctor Strange was such a wild and crazy turn.” She said.

She highlighted how WandaVision allowed her to explore Wanda in ways she never had before. The show took a deep dive into Wanda’s grief and trauma, giving her character a level of emotional depth that resonated with audiences worldwide. From there, she moved on to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where her character took an even darker and more intense turn.

Olsen also touched on her hopes for continuing in the role. She acknowledged how fortunate she feels to have played Wanda for over a decade and hinted at her willingness to return if given the chance: “I do feel very lucky that I’ve been able to play a character for over 10 years of my life, and I’d love to keep doing more. But the animation thing, I feel like it’s a parallel world. I don’t really know how it intersects with what we do. But I’ve really enjoyed getting to play her over 10 years, and I continue to feel lucky that I have the opportunities I did, creatively.
