Eric Kripke Announces Season 5 Production Start and Teases the Future of ‘The Boys’ Universe

Eric Kripke has a track record of producing highly successful shows, with his most recent work, The Boys, standing out as one of the best and most popular superhero series ever. Since its premiere on Amazon, the show has consistently pushed the boundaries of what can be shown on TV.

Season 4 of The Boys shattered viewership records and raised the stakes even higher than in previous seasons, leaving the world in chaos and evil seemingly poised to win. But the cast and crew promise that the upcoming fifth and final season will be the wildest yet.

In an earlier interview with Variety, Kripke shared exciting production details for the final season and teased what the future holds for the The Boys universe beyond Season 5.

I know you’re in the writers’ room writing Season 5 now, so what is the timeline for shooting and when it will air?

It’s not totally locked in yet but we are going to start shooting around mid-November. And I don’t know when it’ll premiere yet, but we’ll be shooting well into middle of ’25.

Will the final season be the usual eight episodes?

It will be eight episodes.

As you can see, the final season won’t be extended, and Kripke has everything mapped out. Filming is expected to wrap up by summer or early fall of 2025, which suggests that if all goes according to schedule, we could see the new season premiere in the first half of 2026. Of course, that’s still tentative.

In addition to that, Kripke was asked about the future of The Boys universe, and here’s what he had to say:

What does this mean for “Gen V” and for the Mexico spinoff currently in the works?

I think they can and should continue. “The Boys” story is about Butcher and Homelander and these two planets crashing into each other and this particular story doesn’t work without both of them. And you can only keep that going for so long.

So what I would say is, this particular story is ending, the Butcher-Homelander is ending. But there can be other stories and other corners of the universe. And hopefully, it’s vibrant and perverted enough to allow for those stories. So hopefully, “Gen V” continues, hopefully, a couple other things we have in development continue.

A couple?

There’s more than “The Boys” Mexico spinoff, but we’re not ready to announce anything yet.

It’s clear that the future of The Boys franchise looks promising, and we’re excited to see what’s next.
