Amazon Prime has enjoyed a string of successful comic book adaptations, with The Boys and Invincible both becoming major hits. Building on the success of The Boys, the streaming service launched a spin-off series, Gen V, in September 2023. The show, which ran for eight episodes, proved to be another hit, leading to the announcement of a second season.

The series faced a significant setback when star Chance Perdomo tragically passed away in a traffic accident. Following a brief hiatus, production on Season 2 resumed, with the decision made to honor Perdomo by not recasting his role.

During a recent media event at San Diego Comic-Con, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke, who oversees the entire fictional universe, shared his thoughts on the premiere episode of Gen V Season 2. He also discussed his impressions of the episode and highlighted a significant new addition to the cast.

As previously reported, the series was renewed for a second season in October 2023 following the success of its first season, which bridged the gap between Seasons 3 and 4 of The Boys, the flagship show of the franchise. Production for the second season was briefly delayed due to the tragic death of actor Chance Perdomo but has since resumed.

The series is now on track for a 2025 release, though a specific date has yet to be announced. While the exact number of episodes remains unknown, the new season is expected to serve as a bridge between Seasons 4 and 5 of The Boys, continuing the role the first season played between Seasons 3 and 4 of the main series.

Following the crossover between the two series in Season 4 of The Boys, Gen V has become a key component of the broader fictional universe. The producers are keenly aware of this and aim to build on the success of both shows. Eric Kripke, who is overseeing production, has recently praised the premiere episode and highlighted the addition of Hamish Linklater—best known as the voice of Batman in Batman: Caped Crusader.

“It’s really good. I just saw the season premiere last week. It’s excellent. Hamish [Linklater] , you know, is the new addition to the cast. And he’s amazing – brilliant actor. And I feel like first seasons of shows are always hard, because they’re finding itself a little bit. And I think, no, I think Gen V has found itself.”
