Every New Marvel Studios MCU Reveal Shown at SDCC 2024

Share:

Last year’s San Diego Comic-Con was a sad affair in terms of MCU primarily due to the SAG-AFTRA strike that prohibited the actors and writers from promoting their movies.

This is why this year’s SDCC definitely delivered, fans have gotten plenty of updates related to the flagship franchise, and other projects that are a bit closer to release. So, let’s see everything that was revealed:

‘Avengers 5’ gets a new title and Doctor Doom Reveal

Definitely, the biggest update of the night was reserved for ‘Avengers’ franchise. Russo Brothers are returning to the MCU and Avengers 5 has a new title: “Avengers: Doomsday,” set for release in May 2026.

Additionally, a newly designed “Avengers: Secret Wars” logo was revealed, with a new release date of May 2027. It was also announced that Robert Downey Jr. will play Victor Von Doom. The Russo Brothers praised Downey Jr., stating they needed “the greatest actor in the world” for the role, and Downey Jr. expressed his excitement, saying, “new mask, same task,” and his love for playing “complicated characters.” I guess we are a step closer to ‘Time Runs Out” storyline playing out in the MCU.

Giancarlo Esposito’s villain has been revealed

The biggest announcement related to the ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ was definitely the fact that no one truly did guess which character Esposito is playing! Giancarlo Esposito will be playing Sidewinder the leader of the Serpent Society. Esposito’s character was added during the pricy reshoots.

It was also revealed that adamantium, the powerful metal known for Wolverine’s claws and skeleton, will play a significant role in ‘Brave New World.’ At the film’s start, countries are vying for adamantium resources. President Ross aims to share these resources globally and enlists Sam Wilson to help rebuild the Avengers.

Following the announcement, the same footage shown at CinemaCon 2024 was revealed. It included a scene with new President Thaddeus Ross discussing the celestial from ‘Eternals’ and adamantium production. Sam Wilson and Joaquin are seen flying together in their Falcon suits. The footage concludes with President Ross transforming into the Red Hulk at a podium in front of the White House, with the Red Hulk resembling Ford but with yellow eyes and black hair.

Exclusive ‘Thunderbolts*’ footage

As far as ‘Thunderbolts*’ go, the highpoint was definitely the exlusive footage. The footage starts with Yelena visiting Alexei’s messy apartment and asking if he feels fulfilled. A dramatic version of the Pixies’ “Where is My Mind” plays as the Thunderbolts are assigned the same mission and end up fighting each other. The clip introduces a character named “Bob,” (Pullman’s Sentry) who is shown in a hospital gown, before it ends.

Fiege also confirmed once again that the team won’t be named after Thaddeus Ross. The cast described the Thunderbolts team as struggling and reluctant to work together.

‘Fantastic Four’ gets a new title, exclusive footage and new confirmed plot details

At the beginning of the presentation a new fitting title for the first entry in the franchise has been revelead – ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps.’ Director Matt Shakman revealed he aims to make the Fantastic Four’s powers feel real by consulting scientists and animal experts. The film will feature a futuristic version of the 1960s setting and aesthetic, presenting New York as “what you’ve seen from the 60s and something more.

And there’s also the footage. The footage, shot in a 4:3 aspect ratio to look like retro television, begins with Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) teaching a class and asking if they want to see an explosion. The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) appears as a silhouette on the dating show “The Dating Game.” The team is then shown in astronaut suits with their last names on them, boarding a retro-futuristic rocket. As the rocket takes off, the aspect ratio changes. The footage concludes with Galactus’ comic-accurate face partially visible behind a building.
