Ezra Miller Cleared of Grooming Charges: Is a DCU Comeback on the Horizon?

Share:

Depending on who you ask, DCEU was highly controversial without even adding actors’ personal dramas to the list and one of the biggest issues toward the end of the cinematic universe was Ezra Miller.

Miller debuted as Flash in the DCEU with a ‘Batman v Superman’ cameo, and appeared in several subsequent movies including their own standalone movie, ‘The Flash,’ that marked the “reboot” of the DCEU through Flashpoint.

The movie was heavily boycotted by the fans and non-fans alike mostly due to Miller’s legal troubles. The actor was facing issues due to disorderly conduct, a choking incident, harassment allegations, burglary charges, and several additional incidents that took place in Hawaii and Vermont. However, nothing can absolutely annihilate your career as grooming charges, and that’s exactly what Miller has faced.

In June 2022, the Standing Rock Sioux tribal court issued a temporary protection order against Ezra Miller, requested by the parents of 18-year-old activist Tokata Iron Eyes. They alleged Miller used violence, manipulation, and drugs to control their daughter, whom they had known since she was 12. Despite their claims, Tokata denied the allegations on social media, though her parents believed she wasn’t in control of her accounts. Efforts to secure a permanent protection order were eventually dismissed. Later, Miller faced criticism for verbally abusing Tokata and for claiming to be a Messiah to Native Americans, despite lacking Indigenous ancestry.

Years after accusing Ezra Miller of grooming his daughter, Tokata, in 2022, Chase Iron Eyes has clarified that he withdrew the complaint after realizing he was wrong. He explained that his initial belief was based on a story from someone who has since recanted. Now, Chase is supportive of the band that Tokata and Miller are playing in together and wishes to move on from the controversy.

There’s a reason I support [Hundred in the Hand] and I don’t feel like I owe an explanation but after we hosted a party in Santa Fe we received some feedback. When you live your life under a public (tribal and non tribal) microscope of critique sometimes it seems it’s only the critique that makes its way through,I want to offer this on the drama 3 years ago when I filed a petition and claimed that Ezra appeared to have ‘groomed’ Tokata. I made that statement in my pleading (in a time of absolute war) based on information from a witness who then recanted and said nothing happened that they could infer anything inappropriate from. Thus, I immediately withdrew the court filings.

Now we are doing our level best to move on, to reconcile, to heal while remaining supportive as a father; as long as Tokata’s good we’re good. These are real people, living real lives and once you’re in that fire where there is no anonymity, there is no safe space for you to retreat. That’s a strange place and it’s not enviable. It takes a lot to enter the fray again.

So, Miller is now, at least as far as this specific grooming charges go, cleared in the eyes of the law and many fans are now wondering whether the actor might appear again in the DCU as the Flash.

It is possible, considering that Flashpoint happened, it could easily be explained that Flashpoint led Miller to the DCU to serve as the new universe’s Flash. However that’s likely not going to happen, not beacuse Miller was as bad as Flash, in my personal opinion they were great, but the actor has too many controversies surrounding them.

As I’ve already mentioned, the grooming charges were just one aspect of their legal troubles that included everything from violence, brainwashing, burglary, and harassment, James Gunn really doesn’t need this. He can save himself a lot of headaches down the line by going with a new actor.

One of the reasons why DCEU was extremely criticized toward the end was the fact that they refused to recast some problematic actors. Miller is just one side of the coin fans also hated the fact that Amber Heard got to reprise her role as Mera in the last DCEU movie, ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom.’
