Fan Theory Proposes Downey’s Dr. Doom Will Kill Holland’s Spider-Man, Setting Up ‘Secret Wars’

Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU is currently one of the most talked-about pieces of entertainment news. Marvel made a big splash at San Diego Comic-Con, and the buzz around Downey and the future of the MCU is palpable and exciting.

Previously, Jonathan Majors was cast as Kang the Conqueror, set to return as the main antagonist in Secret Wars. However, following the controversy and conviction related to his domestic abuse case, Majors was dismissed. Marvel initially planned to recast Kang, but it was revealed at the Marvel panel during SDCC that Doctor Doom will replace Kang, with Downey taking on the role.

The details of how Downey’s character will be integrated into the MCU remain unknown. However, as you might expect, fans are already coming up with their own theories. We recently came across one particularly intriguing theory that actually makes a lot of sense.

The theory we’re about to share was developed by Reddit user Relative-Athlete-477, who outlined their storyline for the Doomsday movie:

Act 1: following the events of the fantastic four where Galactics devours earth, Reed Richard’s and the rest of the family somehow flee to an alternate universe (earth 616). Doctor Doom, also manages to escape to the sacred timeline, although separate from the fantastic four (meaning the team is unaware Doom escaped too). Both The Fantastic Four and Doom arrive on earth 616 to discover that an incursion between 616 and the X-men universe from the post-credits scene of The Marvels, has begun. Likely due to whatever events take place in Doctor strange 3 (time runs out) that lead into Avengers: Doomsday.

Both the Fantastic four and Doctor Doom learn of the Avengers in this universe and seek them out. Doom in the process learns that he looks identical to this universes Tony Stark, who is seen as a great hero. Something he can no doubt use to his advantage. Meanwhile we get a scene where the current Avengers: Sam Wilson, Spiderman, Shang-Chi, She-Hulk, etc. encounter the X-Men. We get an epic fight scene that results in the X-men winning before Doom shows up last minute to aid The Avengers. With Dooms help, they fight back and The X-men are forced to retreat. Some of The Avengers are grateful for the help, while others are curious as to who this mystery helper is.

Doom turns around and removes his mask as the team is in shock to see who appears to be Tony Stark. Doom lies to them by saying he is Tony from an alternate universe that was just destroyed by an incursion and he is the lone survivor of that earth. He also states that because of his failure to save his own earth, he knows what to do correctly in order to save the 616 earth. In doing so he gains the trust of the Avengers (although some have their suspicions about “Tony”but due to the impending Incursion, choose to trust him for now.) and access to a lot of Stark technology.

Btw this is just for fun, there’s gonna be some plot holes but feel free to add your own theories or thoughts that could make this better. 🙂
