Fan Theory Suggests New Explanation for Robert Downey Jr.’s Role as Victor Von Doom

Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Doctor Doom to the MCU is currently one of the hottest topics in entertainment news. Marvel made a huge splash at San Diego Comic-Con, and Downey’s involvement has everyone buzzing about the future of the MCU, which is once again looking thrilling.

Originally, Jonathan Majors was set to reprise his role as the main antagonist in Secret Wars, following his portrayal of Kang the Conqueror in previous Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. However, due to his domestic abuse scandal, Majors lost the role. At the Marvel panel during SDCC, it was announced that Doctor Doom would replace Kang, with Downey taking on the iconic villain.

While it’s still unclear how Downey’s Doctor Doom will be integrated into the MCU, fans are already speculating and crafting their own theories. We’ve come across a particularly intriguing theory that seems quite plausible, and we’re excited to share it with you.

The theory we are about to present to you was constructed by Reddit user 0nlyHere4TheZipline, who tried to explain why RDJ was the one chosen to play Doctor Doom:

So, we only know a little about F4: First Steps, but I think we all can safely assume Doom will be in it to some extent. Most think he will only be in the end credits, but I think Victor will be a main player in the entire movie, serving its B plot. But this Victor won’t be RDJ…

Since the movie takes place in another universe, and the F4 will be in the next two Avengers movies, they obviously have to get to 616 somehow. Many have speculated that Galactus wins in this and forces them to retreat to another universe. This is where details get fuzzy, but I believe Victor will be forced to find his own way out using a machine of his own creation (like he used in the comics to confront Mephisto).

This machine will only partially work, and just transport his consciousness. It will seek out cosmic power as a means to host his consciousness, and get pulled to the body of the late Tony Stark shortly after his death and burial. Using the stones it turns out left a significant mark on Tony, but physically and spiritually.

I predict the end credit scene of F4 will be a close up of the now deceased Tony Stark, who opens his eyes now filled with a sinister glow. Doom has entered the MCU.

Edit: There is also precedence for this, as Doom once transfered his mind into a dead wolverine
