Fans Are Calling for a ‘Brightburn’-Style ‘Batman’ Movie—And They’ve Already Chosen the Director

Remember Brightburn? The James Gunn-produced film that reimagined Superman as a malevolent force? While it didn’t become a mainstream hit, it gained a cult following and still gives us chills with its portrayal of an unstoppable, yet disturbingly human-like, threat.

The movie’s ending hinted at the existence of other characters like the titular villain, sparking discussions about expanding the fictional universe. Although nothing materialized, fans still fondly recall the film, which brings us to an intriguing idea.

What if we had a Brightburn-style Batman horror movie? Imagine a dark take on Batman, where the Caped Crusader is more monstrous, akin to some of the darker comic book versions of the character. It might be a long shot, but the concept is definitely worth exploring!

Coming up with ideas like this—while not always simple—is definitely a lot of fun. You get to blend different concepts into something new and exciting. Although the chances of actually seeing a movie like this are slim, that didn’t stop us from imagining it.

In terms of story and setting, this Batman movie wouldn’t be exactly like Brightburn, since Batman isn’t a superhuman in the same way, but he is a superhero. The plot could either portray him as a monstrous figure, similar to the Batman & Dracula comic book trilogy (though not exactly the same), or turn him into a superhuman villain that remains somewhat faithful to the original comics.

This film would definitely lean into the horror genre, much like Brightburn, but with a darker, creepier vibe and less of a traditional superhero feel. It would be a unique take, unlike any Batman movie we’ve seen before, as none have fully delved into horror, even though some have flirted with it.

With that in mind, we think we’ve found the perfect director for such a project—James Wan! Known for creating some of the best horror franchises of our time and directing the Aquaman movies, Wan would be an ideal choice to helm this film.

Of course, this is just a concept, and it’s unlikely we’ll ever see it come to life. But it was a lot of fun to imagine! Would you be interested in seeing a movie like this? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
