Robert Downey Jr. portrayed Iron Man in the 2008 Marvel Studios film of the same name. The movie was both a critical and commercial hit, but it is now primarily recognized as the inaugural entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the largest cohesive cinematic narrative in history.
Despite this, Downey continued to play Iron Man until his heroic end in “Avengers: Endgame.” While it’s nearly impossible to picture anyone else in the role, fans online have been speculating about another actor portraying Tony Stark/Iron Man in an alternate-universe cameo.
