Fans Hoped for an Emmy Nomination for Antony Starr, but It Didn’t Materialize

The Boys, one of the world’s most popular superhero series, just concluded its fourth season with a bang after eight episodes. Although initial reactions were lukewarm, the series picked up momentum, earning a Certified Fresh rating and high viewership numbers. However, many fans have been review-bombing the season due to its increased political undertone, a factor that didn’t seem to faze the showrunners.

On July 18, 2024, The Boys released the final episode of Season 4, titled “Season Four Finale” (originally “Assassination Run” – check out our special report on the title change). The season wrapped up with all the craziness perfectly culminating in this chaotic conclusion.

Despite the season’s polarizing reactions from fans and some critics, one thing remained certain: Antony Starr’s performance as Homelander was stellar. Fans universally praised his acting and flooded the internet with calls for an Emmy nomination. Unfortunately, the nomination didn’t materialize, but it seems the actor is not too concerned about it.

As we mentioned in our earlier report, Antony Starr’s portrayal of the villain Homelander in Season 4 of The Boys has been absolutely amazing, and it’s clear why fans are loving it. Despite being a vile character, Starr’s performance is stellar, deserving all the praise it receives. Eric Kripke commented on this in an earlier interview, saying:

Are there any instances where you have changed the characters as you’ve seen what the actors can do?

The short answer is all of them. I mean, one of the things I love most about television is your ability to evolve and adjust as dailies come in, and you can tailor the role. Once you see what the actor is comfortable with and what they excel at and where some of their blind spots are, you can really start playing to their strengths.

In Homelander’s example, Ant’s ability to give 16 facial expressions when another person gives one is just so astounding. Give that guy an Emmy already. I don’t understand why it hasn’t happened yet.

We’ve previously reported on fans comparing Homelander to Heath Ledger’s Joker. Recently, as the Emmy nominations announcement approached, fans rallied behind their favorite villain, supporting his potential nomination:

Unfortunately, when the nominations were announced, Starr’s name was absent (The Boys received zero nominations in total). This was disappointing, though the competition was exceptionally tough this year. Despite this, Starr’s performance deserved recognition. However, as an interview reveals, Antony Starr is not particularly bothered by the omission:

A lot of people really think you already deserve an Emmy for your work on this show.

I’m not worried about it, man. As I’ve gotten older, my ambitions have changed. And I realize the mechanics behind those things, the politics and all of that. And I think, good luck to everyone, but yeah, that’s not what drives me.

So, while the disappointment is real, fans should consider Starr’s own perspective on the matter. That wraps up this report, but stay tuned for more news and updates!
