Fans Outraged as Marvel Studios Seemingly Used Generative AI to Create ‘Fantastic Four’ Posters

The first trailer for ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ dropped today, and fans are ecstatic. It introduces the alternate retro-futuristic reality that Marvel’s first family will originate from, giving us our first look at Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch, and Vanessa Kirby showcasing her incredible powers as the Invisible Woman.

The teaser is packed with exciting references and hidden details, but sharp-eyed fans also noticed something unexpected in the official cinematic posters.

One of the posters showcases a crowd of people and the reporters presumably cheering the Fantastic Four. Fans noticed that some “details” on the poster are consistent with how generative AI would create the poster.

The first clue is fairly obvious as the man holding the Fantastic Four flag has only 4 fingers, this is the most common hint that generative AI has been used. The second weird thing about the poster is – in the crowd. You will notice that one woman is cloned and appears several times in the poster. However, generative AI doesn’t usually make mistakes like these.

This is not the first time that Marvel Studios has been under fire due to the usage of AI. A few months ago after ‘Thunderbolts*’ poster was released fans also started a witch-hunt over what appears to be an AI-generated poster but in that case, Sentry had six fingers.

We ultimately debunked that one. Sentry has a normal number of fingers but perspective is everything.

The studio was also heavily criticized for using AI to generate an intro for the notable 2023 flop ‘Secret Invasion.’ Director and executive producer Ali Selim explained that AI was used due to the “shifty nature of Skrulls” but of course no one bought it.
