‘The Boys’ is renowned as one of the most popular comic book series of all time, largely due to the immense success of its TV adaptation, which in turn boosted the comic’s popularity. The series has consistently been ranked among the greatest of all time, sparking continual interest from fans.

Recently, Ranker conducted a major survey to determine the best characters of all time. While the survey featured a list of 40 characters, we’re focusing on the top ten characters from ‘The Boys’ in this report. We’ll provide you with insights and commentary, adding our own perspectives to enrich the discussion.

Given the significance of this list, we’re excited to share the results with you. We’ll be presenting the top 10 characters from this survey, ranked from 10th to 1st place. We hope you find it as intriguing as we do!

10. Soldier Boy

Jensen Ackles’ character was introduced relatively late in the series but quickly became a fan favorite. It wasn’t just Ackles’ performance; the character was compelling and well-developed, with a strong narrative arc. Although he was somewhat underused in the most recent fourth season, his return has been hinted at for Season 5, and fans are eagerly anticipating more of him. We certainly agree with his place on this list.

9. Hughie Campbell

Hughie Campbell, portrayed by Jack Quaid, is one of the central protagonists of the series, alongside Butcher. Initially depicted as an ordinary “dork,” Hughie undergoes a significant transformation as he encounters one tragedy after another. His character is exceptionally well-written, and the attention the writers have given to his evolution is remarkable. Hughie experiences several phases throughout the series, making him one of the few characters that many viewers can genuinely relate to.

8. Starlight

The series’ female protagonist, Annie January, stands apart from the other supes as she does not support Homelander or Vought International. Initially portrayed as an idealist who buys into Vought’s PR narrative, she soon discovers the harsh reality behind the façade. This realization drives her to “betray” her own kind and ally with the Boys. Ultimately, Annie’s goal is to do good and rescue the world from the terror posed by the Seven.

7. Queen Maeve

Although Queen Maeve’s storyline in the series may have concluded, her impact remains significant. Despite all she has endured, she continues to embody female empowerment and serves as an inspiration for many women and girls. Maeve exemplifies strength, intelligence, and resilience, and the writers’ dedication to developing her character is truly commendable. We fully support her place on this list.

6. Black Noir

Black Noir’s inclusion on the list might seem surprising at first, but it actually makes a lot of sense upon closer reflection. His unique and eccentric characterization quickly made him a fan favorite, and his popularity soared even higher once his backstory was unveiled. When the producers chose to resurrect the character in a more quirky form after his apparent death, fans were thrilled. We’re currently enjoying this new take on Black Noir as well.

5. Kimiko

Kimiko’s spot on this list is certainly deserved, given that she is one of the most cherished characters in the series. Karen Fukuhara’s portrayal has been exceptional, and the writers have invested significantly in her character development throughout the show. Kimiko continues to be a pivotal figure in the series, making her inclusion on this list both fitting and essential.

4. Homelander

Homelander, the primary villain of the series, elicits both intense admiration and disdain. Despite Eric Kripke and actor Antony Starr’s insistence that Homelander lacks redeeming qualities and should not be supported, some viewers still find themselves drawn to his character. Nonetheless, Homelander is regarded as one of television’s greatest villains. Antony Starr’s portrayal has been so exceptional that some fans have even compared it to Heath Ledger’s Joker, highlighting the depth and impact of his performance.

3. Mother’s Milk

One of the major side characters in the series, Mother’s Milk is absolutely great. In many ways, he is both the heart and the soul of the Boys, which is a fact that the writers used in the most brilliant manner possible. He has had many memorable moments throughout the series, and due to his commitment to the cause, as well as a great backstory, the fans are thoroughly enjoying him as a character, so we can only agree that he deserves to be in the top three best characters.

2. Frenchie

Frenchie is a character who has evoked a wide range of emotions over the years. We’ve loved him, disliked him, rooted for him, and even felt frustrated with him. His ability to inspire such a diverse array of feelings is why he undoubtedly deserves a spot on this list. The depth and dedication poured into his backstory are impressive, solidifying his place as one of the series’ finest characters. We wholeheartedly agree that he deserves his position here.

1. Billy Butcher

Did you really expect anyone else to top this list? *Butcher smile* Billy Butcher is the heart of the show. Though he’s evolved from the man we first met and is gradually becoming a monster himself, much like the supes he seeks to destroy, Butcher remains an exceptional character. His central role and complex journey make him unquestionably the best character in the series, so his spot at number one was a foregone conclusion.
