‘X-Men ’97’ Gets a New Writer and Update on Season 2 Script, Fans Are Not Happy: “Whatever Beau DeMayo did to get fired must be really bad”

Just days before the season 1 premiere, the head writer for ‘X-Men ’97’ Beau DeMayo was fired from Disney, and an official reason was never given as to why that happened. There were plenty of speculations going around, from DeMayo being fired due to the OnlyFans account to stories of him not exactly being the most pleasant person to be around.

In any case, DeMayo was fired and the show turned out to be a massive hit with consistently high ratings. Much of that success was attributed to DeMayo’s writing, who guided fans via social media through the episodes, every step of the way.

A few weeks ago, following the season 1 finale, DeMayo explained the extent of his involvement with Season 2 of the popular show, which was announced even before the premiere of season 1. The writer explained that he wrote the majority of the upcoming season, he just won’t be involved with leading production or cast records.

The fans took it as a good sign that the following season wouldn’t suffer too much from the lack of DeMayo. But apparently, plans have changed. Yesterday, during an episode of the official Marvel Podcast the showrunners explained that DeMayo’s script has been revised.

Fans, who were advocating for DeMayo’s return took it as an extremely bad sign, meaning that there is no hope that the writer would be reinstated to his role and it’s clear that his impact on the production is trying to be minimized.

On the podcast, it was also confirmed that season 3 is in active development with Matthew Chauncey selected to pen the script, he previously worked on ‘What If….?’ which fans also took as a bad sign.

Hopefully, we don’t see a decrease in quality due to the writers changing, since it’s been rumored that ‘X-Men ’97’ will get as many seasons as possible due to its popularity and overall excellent reception.

One of my personal fears is that some fans will criticize the future seasons of the show without merit, simply due to DeMayo not being involved with it. Everyone should get a chance to prove their best, but so far the reactions to the latest news regarding the show haven’t been the best.
