Fans Split on Ideal Choice for Robin in Gunn’s DCU

When James Gunn was brought on by Warner Bros. to revitalize the DCEU, now rebranded as the DCU, everyone anticipated significant changes, and those changes are indeed underway.

Although the DCU hasn’t officially launched yet, we already have a wealth of information about upcoming projects to look forward to and discuss.

Regarding Batman’s universe, Matt Reeves is developing his own trilogy and related works, which will likely exist separately from the main DCU. This opens the door for the possibility of two Batmans coexisting, which is quite intriguing.

While Reeves’ universe may not include a Robin, Gunn’s DCU is likely to feature the character, especially with the recent announcement of a prequel animated film titled Dynamic Duo, which will delve into the early lives of two future Robins.

Though the film will be animated, many fans are speculating about who could be cast as a live-action version of Robin, and opinions are divided.

A recent Reddit discussion sparked fans to propose several candidates for the role of Robin. While the conversation initially revolved around Matt Reeves’ The Batman sequel, these names can also be considered for the DCU, especially since it’s unlikely that Pattinson’s younger Batman will introduce a Robin anytime soon.

The discussion was initiated by user Easy-Economist-1467, who posed the following question: “Regardless of your feelings about having a Robin in the film, I know there have already been articles about Matt Reeves looking at Walker Scobell, but I’m curious—what kid do you think would be the best choice?”

if you could cast a live action robin in batman 2 who would you cast?

As you’ll notice, there haven’t been many responses, but some intriguing proposals have emerged, such as this one: If this was a few years back, I’d happily give a vote to Ryan Potter. While he wound up getting picked up for the Titans series as Gar, he had campaigned for a shot at Robin while Affleck was still Bats.

At this point though he’s aged out… but I’d happily still give him a go for a Nightwing (I know most have other picks, but he’s got the spirit). So at this point… I… don’t know. I’d like to go for a kid who has at least some background in either martial arts or gymnastics if we’re going for a Grayson. Maybe that’s it, go for an unknown.

Not robin but I think Tanner Buchanan would play a great Nightwing or Red hood

Among the other names suggested were Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard and child actor Jacob Tremblay.

Some fans even proposed casting a completely new and unknown talent for the role, while others took a humorous approach, jokingly suggesting actors like Willem Dafoe or Matt Damon, which definitely gave us a laugh. One fan pointed out that Pattinson’s Batman might be too young for a Robin, a sentiment we agree with; however, we’ve focused this discussion on the DCU context.

As you can see, fans remain divided, and it seems we still have a long way to go before reaching a consensus on who should play Robin.
