MCU so far spans 33 movies and numerous TV shows, as the universe keeps expanding the quality of movies and other projects generally seems to have declined in recent years.

However, despite these recent changes, it’s an undeniable fact that the MCU has given us some of the best superhero movies in the history of the genre. Luckily, fans gathered on Ranker with over 200,000 votes and picked Crème de la crème movies of the MCU. Some placements are surprising, while some are exactly where you would expect them.

10. ‘Black Widow’ (2021)

‘Black Widow’ was released after Natasha already tragically passed away, so fans hurried to theaters to “say goodbye” to the character in her final and standalone movie. The movie was generally received well with brilliant action sequences and a stellar supporting cast. However, it was mostly marked by Johansson’s lawsuit against the studio for releasing the movie on Disney+ too soon. Despite ‘Black Widow’ being a solid film, I’m still surprised it made the cut into the top 10.

9. ‘Black Panther’ (2018)

‘Black Panther’ wasn’t just a movie, it was a cultural phenomenon as African-Americans felt truly represented in the MCU for the first time in forever I guess. The movie was used as inspiration for some social movements as well as some memes. Chadwick Boseman left a permanent mark in the cinematic universe until sadly passing away due to colon cancer.

The movie changed a lot of things both in the MCU and outside of it and practically everyone knows what Wakanda is about nowadays due to it. The movie, in my opinion, should be much higher.

8. ‘Iron Man’ (2008)

The movie that started it all. ‘Iron Man,’ now sixteen years later is a living testament that one single movie can kickstart the most lucrative and acclaimed franchise in history of cinema. The movie was not only an instant success for Marvel Studios, it also managed to revitalize RDJ’s career. In hindsight, there are far better movies that were released after it, but ‘Iron Man’ gets a placement due to sentimental reasons.

7. ‘The Avengers’ (2012)

Upon release, ‘The Avengers’ was the third-highest-grossing movie of all time. It broke several records and picked up stellar reviews from the critics. It definitely set the bar for future team-up projects and it definitely deserves a place on the list.

6. ‘Captain America: Civil War’ (2016)

‘Civil War’ attempted something that wasn’t tried in the MCU yet, pitting two “good guys” against each other, and it worked. Russo Brothers recently stated that they drew inspiration from ‘Batman V. Superman.’ The movie is still being praised on how the ‘Captain America’ movie should be done.

5. ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ (2014)

With the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ franchise, James Gunn managed to turn Z-list characters into a highly lucrative series of movies. That wouldn’t be possible if the first movie did not so well with the audiences. The first installment had everything, humor, a goofy lead, a heartwarming story, a strong female lead, and a cast of hilarious but lovable supporting characters.

4. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (2019)

According to many fans, ‘Endgame’ is the last good movie that Marvel Studios released and the beginning of the end of the MCU. This is understandable and you simply can’t expect a regular superhero movie to top the emotional finale of the first few phases of the MCU. Let’s hope that ‘Avengers 5’ and ‘Secret Wars,’ will manage to top it. That said, I’m surprised that it’s this “low” on the list.

3. ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’ (2014)

‘Winter Soldier’ focused on old-school action, espionage, and generally politically astute themes. Critics lauded the film’s departure from excessive CGI spectacle in favor of action, and interesting character development, with some going as far as to compare it to ‘The Dark Knight.’ Personally, I wouldn’t place ‘Winter Soldier’ above ‘Endgame’ but I’m honestly not the targeted audience for espionage films.

2. ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ (2017)

Thor suffered from a case of seriously bad movies in the MCU until Waititi took over and turned it around. ‘Ragnarok’ had everything it needed to succeed, it had a perfect blend of dark atmosphere and humor, a cast of amazing supporting characters, and one of the most terrifying villains in the MCU.

‘Ragnarok’ is the best movie in the franchise, but in my opinion it’s not “second-best-movie-in-the-MCU” good.

1. ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

‘Infinity War’ ending was an emotional nuclear bomb unleashed on MCU fans, no movie in the MCU managed to top that ending, no, not even ‘Endgame.’ The movie received praise for its epic scale, storyline, and seamless integration of numerous characters from the MCU. Critics and audiences alike appreciated the film’s high stakes, emotional depth, and stunning visual effects, and I definitely agree it should be number 1 on the list.
