Filming Date for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Announced; Won’t Overlap with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’

At the recent San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige excited attendees with the announcement that Robert Downey Jr. will be returning to the Marvel universe as Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Stephen McFeely, the film is scheduled for a global release on May 1, 2026. While the filming start date wasn’t revealed at Comic-Con, Collider has now reported that production is set to begin this spring.
Fans of the Fantastic Four can look forward to their appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. Following their introduction in The Fantastic Four: First Steps (releasing July 25, 2025), all four members will join the ensemble cast.
Pedro Pascal will portray Mr. Fantastic, with Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Vanessa Kirby and Joseph Quinn playing the Storm siblings, and Ralph Ineson set to appear as Galactus, the antagonist in First Steps.
In an interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub at New York Comic Con, Joe Russo confirmed that filming for Doomsday is indeed set to begin this spring.
He also hinted at the project’s scale and the excitement it has generated among Marvel fans. Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Doctor Strange, adding an extra layer of magic and mystery to the film.
Additionally, Kevin Feige teased that the Thunderbolts will have a role in Avengers: Doomsday, although details about which characters will appear remain under wraps. Their involvement will come after their own film, Thunderbolts, is set to premiere in 2025, after Captain America: Brave New World.
With such an exciting cast and the return of beloved characters, Avengers: Doomsday is poised to be a significant chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
