‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ marked several big things for the MCU. First and foremost it introduced Deadpool & Wolverine to the franchise, while, as Feige claims, opening the door for the mutants in the future installments.
It marked the beginning of a more financially positive era for the MCU, following a string of box-office failures. But it also somewhat resurrected Snipes’ career as Blade.
Wesley Snipes appeared as the most notable vampire-hunter in the Marvel universe in three movies released before MCU was a thing. The first movie was successful enough that it managed to resurrect Marvel Studios which was at the time facing bankruptcy.
Fans were elated to see Snipes back in his old role, and Reynolds himself started advocating for Snipes to get one final “sendoff movie” similar to the one Jackman had in ‘Logan’ (2017) that would perfectly round up his characters’ arc.
It sounds like a good idea on paper, following ‘Blade’ trilogy, there was a TV series in which Sticky Fingaz stared as Blade, but it wasn’t all that successful and it would be a shame not to revisit Blade’s story some more.
As it turns out the idea was interesting enough for Beau DeMayo, former ‘X-Men ’97’ writer to comment on it, as he pitched his “Old Man Blade” story to his Twitter audience:
Vampire dystopia where they learned to daywalk and took over. Humans are cattle. Brother Voodoo, part of the human resistance, learns #Blade was desiccated/entombed and resurrects him so they can hunt Varney and the Darkhold cult to wipe out all vampires. Treat it like Kurosawa.
The story would work and it wouldn’t even have to “endanger” anything in the MCU continuity-wise as long as it takes place in an alternate reality or before ‘Doctor Stange in the Multiverse of Madness’. The fans reacted positively to DeMayo’s pitch recommending that the recently fired writer contacts Reyonds.
