First Look Images from the Killer Doll Sequel ‘M3GAN 2.0’ Finally Released

We just got a first glimpse at M3GAN 2.0. Returning director Gerard Johnstone hinted at the bigger scale of the sequel, saying, “It is very ambitious. I felt that the story should be bigger and increase in scale and scope, but it’s still a minuscule budget [compared to] the Marvel movie scale.”

The first film grossed over $181 million worldwide against a budget of $12 million and received positive reviews from critics, who liked its campy blend of horror and humor. Deadline Hollywood calculated the net profit of the film to be $78.8 million, when factoring together all expenses and revenues.

Universal was happy with M3GAN and decided to make a sequel in 2022. In 2023, M3GAN 2.0 was confirmed, with Akela Cooper writing and Allison Williams and Violet McGraw returning. The release date was changed from January 2025 to June 27, 2025.

While we wait for the trailer, it’s confirmed that Allison Williams and Violet McGraw are reprising their roles, with Akela Cooper once again penning the script. Horror heavyweights James Wan and Jason Blum are also back to produce, ensuring the sequel has the same creative team behind its success. New faces joining the cast include Timm Sharp, Aristotle Athari, and Jemaine Clement.

But the M3GAN universe isn’t stopping at sequels. A spinoff titled SOULM8TE is already in the works, directed by Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother). Described as a ’90s-style erotic thriller with a fresh tech twist, the spinoff is set to arrive in theaters on January 2, 2026, just months after M3GAN 2.0.

Not much is known about the plot of M3GAN 2.0, but industry insider MyTimeToShineHello recently shared some rumors about the story. These insights were shared through a paid subscription, though the insider has a mixed track record with leaks and scoops.

According to the leak, in M3GAN 2.0, M3GAN is rebuilt to battle a dangerous military AI named AMELIA, played by Ivanna Sakhno, which is designed to take over the world. This time, M3GAN takes on the role of the hero.

We can’t confirm these claims yet, but with AI becoming more common and being a popular theme in sci-fi, it seems believable.
