George R.R. Martin’s short story In the Lost Lands is making its way to the big screen this year, bringing a mix of dark fantasy, action, and adventure. The first trailer, starring Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista, showcases a desolate, post-apocalyptic world where magic and danger collide. The film, directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, is set to release on March 7.

In this adaptation, Jovovich plays Gray Alys, a powerful sorceress hired by a queen to venture into the ghostly wilderness of the Lost Lands in search of a magical power. Her mission is to secure the ability to transform into a werewolf, but it’s a perilous task.

To navigate this treacherous realm, she teams up with Boyce, a drifter played by Bautista. Together, they must outwit both human and supernatural threats in a world reshaped by ancient wars.

Originally published in 1982 as part of the Amazons II anthology, In the Lost Lands was one of Martin’s first ventures into fantasy after writing primarily science fiction in the 1970s. Martin has described the story as “dark and twisted,” and the trailer captures that tone with its haunting visuals, intense action sequences, and atmospheric design.

The cast also includes Arly Jover, Amara Okereke, Fraser James, and several other talented actors. Distributed by Vertical in the U.S. and Constantin Film in Germany, the movie promises a blend of fantasy and sci-fi on an epic scale. Fans of Martin’s work, and those who enjoy dystopian adventures, are eagerly awaiting this adaptation.

Paul W.S. Anderson, known for his collaboration with Jovovich on the Resident Evil series, brings his signature action-packed style to this project. The trailer hints at dramatic clashes, including an unforgettable battle involving a raven and a werewolf, adding to the intrigue surrounding the film.

If In the Lost Lands performs well, Martin has expressed interest in revisiting the character of Gray Alys, possibly writing new stories about her adventures. As the release date approaches, excitement is building for what could be another captivating adaptation of Martin’s imaginative storytelling.
