James Gunn’s and Peter Safran’s DCU will officially kick off with the release of ‘Creature Commandos’ scheduled for December 5, 2024. Although the pair has stated several times in the past that the true start of their revamped cinematic universe will be the release of ‘Superman’ scheduled for 2025.
Not much is known about the movie except for what we’ve seen via set leaks, but we do know that it’s going to feature a lot of characters, some that already have established live-action presence and some adapted for the first time.
During the filming, set leaks revealed that Frank Grillo will reprise his ‘Creature Commandos’ in the live-action movie as well, as Rick Flag Sr. could be seen “arresting” Superman in one of the scenes.
In a recent interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, actor Frank Grillo talked excitedly about his time on the set of ‘Superman,’ calling it a unique experience. He also shared how superheroes weren’t actually a big part of his childhood.
I wasn’t a superhero kid. I wasn’t a comic book kid, but the one superhero — and I’m talking about from the TV show, the original TV show — was Superman. To me, he’s the ultimate and only superhero, second to maybe no one, and a long distance from that is Batman, right? Those are the two superheroes I grew up with. But to step on set and to know Gunn was at the helm, even in the capacity that I was working, was a gift
Grillo also talked about the highly-anticipated ‘Superman’ trailer and had nothing by praise for it.
And I’ll tell you something — I hope I don’t get in trouble for this — I got a sneak peek at a little bit of the trailer, and I’m not joking, and I’m not blowing this out of proportion, my skin was hot and I had goosebumps. That’s how great it is.”
Gunn recently confirmed that the trailer for the movie was ready and on his hard drive, but it’s unknown when our first taste of live-action DCU will drop.
Grillo’s last comment was for his co-star David Corenswet. Following Cavill’s departure from the Superman role, quite a lot of fans were very vocal about the fact that Cavill is irreplaceable, Grillo’s comments might make them change their minds:
By the way, this kid, David [Corenswet], is going to be a superstar. A superstar. He’s amazing, as is the rest of the cast in the film, and just James’ take on it. I think it’s gonna be the movie.
