Fresh images from the set of ‘The Odyssey’ have hit the web, and they’re giving us a peek at something big. Director Christopher Nolan and actor Tom Holland were spotted working together, bringing Homer’s ancient epic to life. The movie, slated for release on July 17, 2026, has already locked in a massive cast and a hefty budget, and these new shots are only fueling the excitement.
Nolan’s tackling one of the oldest stories around – the tale of Odysseus, the Greek hero fighting to get home after the Trojan War. It’s a wild journey packed with monsters, gods, and plenty of drama.
Matt Damon’s confirmed to play Odysseus himself, which makes sense given his past roles in Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’ and ‘Oppenheimer’. But seeing Tom Holland on set has everyone talking. He’s not the lead, so what’s he doing there? Word is he might be Telemachus, Odysseus’s son, which could put him front and center for some key scenes.
The photos show Nolan and Holland in Greece, one of the spots where this global shoot is happening. They’re using brand-new IMAX tech to capture the action, and it’s clear this isn’t a small project. With a rumored $250 million price tag, it’s shaping up to be Nolan’s most expensive film yet.
He’s known for big swings like ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘Inception’, and this looks like another one. They’re even building practical stuff, like a huge mechanical puppet for the Cyclops, Polyphemus, instead of leaning on CGI.
Alongside Damon and Holland, we’ve got Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron, just to name a few. Holland and Zendaya, who’ve teamed up before in the Spider-Man films, are back together here.
Hathaway and Pattinson have worked with Nolan too, so there’s a mix of fresh faces and old pals. I can’t help but wonder if Holland’s charm – he’s the guy who swung into our hearts as Spider-Man – might outshine even Damon’s gritty hero vibe.
Filming’s already underway, hopping from Morocco to Sicily and now Greece. The crew’s hitting real locations tied to the original story, like the island of Favignana, known as ‘goat island’ in the poem.
It’s a bold move to make this feel real, and Nolan’s all about that. He’s not one to fake it with green screens. By the time this hits theaters, we’ll see if it’s the mythic action epic Universal’s promising.
