The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) stands as the most expansive single-narrative cinematic universe to date. Love it or hate it, and despite a recent streak of less successful projects, the MCU continues to thrive and evolve in ways that delight its dedicated fanbase.
Recent hits like Deadpool & Wolverine and Agatha All Along have not only enriched the MCU’s timeline but also introduced some complexity that left fans scratching their heads. Fortunately, Marvel has stepped in to clear up the confusion by regularly updating its official timeline, now available online for fans to explore.
The latest timeline update incorporates these new projects, pinpointing where they fit in relation to the broader MCU story. Curious about how it all connects? Read on for the details!
Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU) has updated its timeline after the release of Deadpool and Wolverine and Agatha All Along in 2024.
Deadpool and Wolverine premiered in theaters in July. It’s the third movie in the Deadpool series, following the 2016 and 2018 films. This time, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool joins forces with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, who hasn’t appeared in an MCU movie since Logan in 2017.
Agatha All Along, a spin-off of WandaVision, debuted on Disney+ in September and October. It follows Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness as she leads a new coven of witches on an adventure down the Witches’ Road. Both of these stories are placed near the end of Marvel’s official timeline, which you can check out here.
According to Marvel.com, Deadpool and Wolverine takes place right after the events of What If…? season 2, which follows Loki season 2. Meanwhile, Agatha All Along is set after Deadpool and Wolverine, making it the most recent entry in the MCU timeline.
The MCU uses a detailed timeline to help fans follow the order of events, even though the release order doesn’t always match. For instance, Captain America: The First Avenger is set in 1942 during World War II, making it the earliest story in the timeline. In comparison, Captain Marvel takes place in 1995.
While the placement of these two new projects isn’t surprising, the future of the MCU raises many questions.
Following its Golden Globe nomination as a comedy series, there’s speculation that Agatha All Along could get a second season. Kathryn Hahn has expressed her enthusiasm, saying she’d love to return as Agatha. Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds hinted that Deadpool might shift into a supporting role in future MCU films, leaving fans curious about what’s next for Wade Wilson.
Looking ahead, Deadpool and Wolverine and Agatha All Along will soon be followed by exciting new MCU releases. Captain America: Brave New World is set to premiere on February 14, 2025, followed by Thunderbolts on May 2, 2025. Both are expected to take place after the events of Deadpool and Wolverine and Agatha All Along, leading into the much-anticipated Avengers: Doomsday on May 1, 2026.
Other upcoming projects include What If…? season 3 on December 22, 2024, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on January 29, 2025, and Daredevil: Born Again on March 4, 2025. Fans can also look forward to Ironheart on June 24, 2025, The Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 25, 2025, and Eyes of Wakanda on August 6, 2025. Major milestones in the MCU’s future include Spider-Man 4 on July 24, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.
These updates highlight just how much the MCU has grown and how carefully it maintains its timeline. With new projects constantly being added, fans are eager to see how these stories connect within the ever-expanding Marvel universe.
