The Boys is one of the most popular superhero series in the world, and its fourth season recently concluded on July 18, 2024. While initial reactions to the season were lukewarm, the series gained momentum and ultimately earned Certified Fresh status with high ratings.
Throughout the fourth season, there were many fascinating and surprising moments, most of which we have already covered in our weekly reviews of the show and its episodes. Now that the season is over, we are eagerly looking ahead to the upcoming fifth and final season, which will bring Kripke’s retelling of the comic book to a close.
Before the final season of the main series, we’ll be treated to the second season of the spin-off series Gen V, whose characters played a significant role in Season 4 of The Boys. This series will continue the storyline from The Boys, and based on recent set photos, we get our first glimpse of what Homelander’s new America will look like.
The leaked set photos have surfaced on Reddit. Before we dive into any commentary, here’s a look at the images:
The images themselves aren’t particularly revealing, but they show Homelander’s face plastered everywhere along with his campaign slogan, which parodies Donald Trump’s slogan. This indicates that The Boys, including the Gen V series, will continue satirizing Republican and right-wing American policies.
So, what do we actually know about this setting from the end of The Boys Season 4?
With an election looming, the situation in the United States descends into chaos. Amidst the political turmoil, Victoria Neuman approaches the Boys, seeking to make a deal that ensures the safety of herself and her daughter—something she’s known to negotiate for. However, Butcher, now armed with new superpowers, arrives and brutally splits Neuman in half, leaving everyone in shock.
Simultaneously, upon discovering the chaos, the President of the United States makes an unprecedented decision—appointing Homelander as commander-in-chief and tasking him with public safety. This move is revealed to be part of Sister Sage’s brilliant plan, which proved to be spot on.
And there you have it: Homelander is now officially and legally the most powerful person in the United States. This puts the Boys in a position where they must come up with something truly ingenious to defeat him, which makes us eagerly anticipate the next episode. In the meantime, stay tuned for all the latest news and updates.
