The penultimate movie in MCU’s Phase Five, Captain America: Brave New World, is set to premiere on February 14, 2025. Fans are eagerly anticipating the film, which will feature Anthony Mackie stepping in as the new Captain America, succeeding Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers—though the movie promises some surprises along the way.

In addition to Mackie, several other notable characters will appear. Harrison Ford is taking over from the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross, Tim Blake Nelson is making a return, and Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as the Hulk. However, the role of the acclaimed actor Giancarlo Esposito has remained unconfirmed for some time.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Giancarlo Esposito confirmed his role in the upcoming movie during the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, which was packed with scoops and new details about the film.

As you may know, the most significant scoop from Marvel’s panel at SDCC was the announcement that Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU as Doctor Doom, overshadowing other revelations. However, those other updates are still worth noting.

We’ve previously speculated about Giancarlo Esposito’s role in the upcoming Captain America film, with various theories leaving fans unsatisfied. The debate is now settled, as Esposito himself confirmed: “I can finally reveal it. I am the King of the Serpent Society. I am Sidewinder!

This revelation is particularly intriguing, especially given earlier rumors suggesting that the Serpent Society storyline had been largely removed from the film, possibly due to reshoots. Esposito elaborated further on his character:

“He’s a complicated guy who didn’t start in a nefarious way. He came to this in a different way, which hopefully will unfold. And I like it because you’ve seen me play certain villainous characters who use their brains, who are great at dictating what to do and how to do it. I like Sidewinder because he’s a very physical guy, and he’s got to go toe-to-toe with his physicality, and he knows how to use the tools of his trade. So he’s someone who plays against some of the things in the comic that you think could be true.”

While some fans might be disappointed that Giancarlo Esposito is cast as a lesser-known character from Marvel’s comics rather than a more prominent role in the MCU, this remains an exciting scoop. We’re confident that Esposito will excel in the role of Sidewinder, and we’re looking forward to seeing an epic portrayal in the upcoming movie.
