Giancarlo Esposito Teases Action-Packed Role as Sidewinder in ‘Captain America: Brave New World’: “(he’s) very very physical”
‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ the second-to-last movie in MCU’s Phase Five, will be released on February 14, 2025. Fans are excited to see Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America, replacing Chris Evans’ character.
The movie will also feature Harrison Ford as Thaddeus Ross, Tim Blake Nelson returning, and Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres aka the new Falcon. ‘Brave New World’ underwent extensive reshoots last summer, with Giancarlo Esposito being added to the cast as Seth Voelker aka Sidewinder.
Fans of the source material will recognize Esposito’s character as the leader of the Serpent Society, a notable group of enemies that often clashed with Captain America.
Esposito loves talking about his character and loves the fact that he joined yet another fantastical franchise following his role in ‘The Mandalorian.’ During LA Comic Con he revealed additional interesting details regarding his character:
Esposito laughed when he saw the original comic design of his character. He mentioned that he added elements of the character’s colors to his costume and hopes it will inspire future movies where he can embrace more of the serpent persona.
Part of the incorporation of Sidewinder’s colors I brought into the costume that I’m wearing. I’m hoping that it gives them inspiration in movies to come that will allow me to take on more of that serpent persona.
‘Break Bad’ star said that while he’s known for playing psychologically intense roles, Sidewinder is more of a physical threat in this film. He described his character as skilled with weapons like rifles, pistols, and knives, and very active with physical moves like punches and kicks.
You’ve never seen me play a character like this. This guy knows how to use a rifle, a pistol, knives, (he’s) very very physical, active with his physicality, punches, kicks, all that.
