Gina Carano Compares Her Disney Lawsuit to Scarlett Johansson’s: “Now imagine if you aren’t SJ and you don’t have that star power to fight back”

Gina Carano is in recent times most notably known as Cara Dune, a pretty big character in the two first seasons of ‘The Mandalorian.’ The studio had seemingly big plans both for the actress and for her character, as she was at one point supposed to receive her own standalone show.

But, everything changed due to a series of controversial social media posts in which Carano compared anti-vaxers to Jews, and after she touched upon other sensitive topics that aren’t quite in tune with modern sensibilities and the image that Disney is trying to maintain.

However, the tipping point came when Carano faced backlash for refusing to disclose her pronouns online in support of the trans rights movement. In response, she added “boop/bop/beep” to her Twitter bio, which she claims was not intended to mock the trans community but rather to express frustration. Carano likened the phrase to R2-D2’s sounds, but the incident sparked a significant backlash.

Carano was fired or rather, her contract with the media company was never renewed. Soon after losing her job and her standalone show, the actress decided to sue Disney, a lawsuit that is currently financed by Elon Musk.

In the last few weeks, Carano’s media spotlight has been renewed since the court decided to proceed with the lawsuit. Disney’s notion to have the lawsuit dismissed has been denied on the grounds that the company does not hire actors to serve as its spokesperson and to maintain its good public image.

The lawsuit is currently heading toward trial or settlement, and Carano in the past stated that she is open to returning to the media company.

Carano recently shared a post on her social media comparing her struggle with that of Scarlett Johansson. ‘Black Widow’ actress sued the studio during the pandemic. Johansson claimed that Disney’s decision to release the film simultaneously in theaters and on the Disney+ streaming platform, under its Premier Access program, violated her contract, as her salary was tied directly to box-office success.

The matters were only made worse when Disney responded publically to Scarlett, trying to abuse the situation with COVID-19 to gather sympathies from the public, painting Scarlett in greedy and inhumane light by calling her out for “callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic

The lawsuit was eventually settled in Johansson’s favor and according to most recent rumors, she might have dealings with the company, specifically MCU once more.

No matter whether you support Carano or not, these two lawsuits are very different in nature, while Johansson truly was a victim of breached contract, Carano had no contract with the media company at the time of her “dismissal” as it was never renewed. However both actresses were victims of slandering campaigns, that’s something you kind of expect from a massive company with a pretty good PR machine.

Carano also has a lot less exposure and resources to fight back, her fanbase is also just a fraction of what Johansson has. So, I kind of see the point she was trying to make but Johnasson’s case was truly as straightforward as it can possibly be.
