Gina Carano is in recent times most notably known as Cara Dune, a pretty big character in the two first seasons of ‘The Mandalorian.’ The studio had seemingly big plans both for the actress and for her character, as she was at one point supposed to receive her own standalone show.

But, everything changed due to a series of controversial social media posts in which Carano compared anti-vaxers to Jews, and after she touched upon other sensitive topics that aren’t quite in tune with modern sensibilities and the image that Disney is trying to maintain, she was fired.

This all led to a lawsuit reportedly financed by Elon Musk, who offered to legally fund any employee who feels discriminated against due to his or hers worldviews in a place of employment. Carano is currently suing Disney for $ 75,000, and she wants to be rehired by Lucasfilm.

Disney filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit and the motion was recently rejected. California-based Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett ruled that Disney failed to provide evidence that they employ contractors for the purpose of maintaining a good public image:

Defendants have not identified any evidence—in the Complaint or otherwise—to substantiate a claim that they employ public-facing actors for the purpose of promoting the ‘values of respect,’ ‘decency,’ ‘integrity,’ or ‘inclusion. […] Accordingly, Defendants’ invocation of the supposedly detrimental effects of Plaintiff’s ‘mere presence’ as one of Defendants’ employees lacks constitutional import.

At this stage in the litigation, the Court cannot conclude, as Defendants urge it to, that Plaintiff’s continued employment by Defendants would inhibit or intrude upon Defendants’ rights to expressive association.

Now the lawsuit is clearly heading toward a trial or settlement, and Carano has already penned quite a list of witnesses, some of the name truly surprising. According to THR’s report, the list includes Pedro Pascal, Jon Favreau, and former Disney CEO Bob Chapek.

Carano and Disney’s joint filing names these individuals, along with Bear Grylls, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, and Lynne Hale, as potential witnesses. The July 26 court document outlines issues for the trial, tentatively set for September 25, 2025, such as whether Carano was under contract when Disney allegedly terminated her for expressing right-wing views on social media.

One more issue in Gina Carano’s lawsuit is whether she was treated unfairly compared to her male co-stars. Carano claims that Disney and Lucasfilm ignored offensive posts made by others, including Pedro Pascal, who compared former President Trump to Hitler and likened U.S. immigration policies to concentration camps, while she was fired for her cultural and religious beliefs.

Additionally, the lawsuit questions whether Jon Favreau will testify about Disney’s approval of a new spinoff, Rangers of the New Republic, which was set to feature Carano’s character, Cara Dune. Kathleen Kennedy had confirmed the production of this spinoff in 2020.

Bear Grylls might be called to testify about allegations that Disney removed an episode of Running Wild With Bear Grylls featuring Carano following her termination. Disney has challenged Carano’s list of witnesses and indicated it may call Lucasfilm VP Carrie Beck and Disney EVP Paul Roeder to testify.
