‘Godzilla Minus One’ has been well-received by fans, who appreciate its fresh approach to the classic monster. The film returns Godzilla to his terrifying roots while playing with horror and emotional depth, the viewers liked it, especially in the era of lukewarm reboots with astronomical budgets.
Its success at the box office, especially for a Japanese film, shows its strong appeal, even in markets dominated by Hollywood. Fans also like how the movie balances nostalgia with new ideas, honoring Godzilla’s legacy while avoiding rehashing old material.
No one was surprised when recently Takashi Yamazaki announced he is working on a sequel. The news was met with praise and cheers. In a recent interview, The director Takashi Yamazaki confirmed that he met with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.
However, it seems that the meeting did not lead to Yamazaki joining the MCU. While it’s a missed opportunity for Marvel, Yamazaki’s distinct style could have brought something unique to superhero films, though it’s unclear if he’d be willing to follow Marvel’s creative guideline.
When asked by announcer Shinsuke Kasai, who appeared on stage wearing a “Operation Kaishin” T-shirt that day, “I heard that Operation Kaishin is popular with foreigners,” he admitted, “Yes, they seem to like that kind of down-to-earth fighting style.” He also shared some surprising information, saying, “The president of Marvel told me, ‘Wadatsumi!’ (laughs). ‘Wadatsumi, good.'”
“The president of Marvel” is thought to refer to Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, and Director Takashi Yamazaki continued, “He told me, ‘We’re all having meetings every day to see if we can make it happen like that.’ I think it’s just lip service.” He also revealed that he received a “great offer” from overseas, but turned it down in order to film a new Godzilla movie, although he couldn’t reveal the details.

If you’re wondering whether there are kaiju elements in Marvel Comics that the director could explore. There are. One of the most notable characters is “American Kaiju,” created after Todd Ziller transforms into a giant, Godzilla-like creature, American Kaiju possesses immense strength and durability, along with a mix of powers from characters like the Hulk and Ant-Man.
This character has battled other powerful beings, including symbiote dragons from Knull’s invasion, showing his impressive abilities. Although not a mainstay in the Marvel universe, he offers a unique kaiju-like presence among the superheroes.
There is also a potential for a Godzilla crossover. Something that’s been successfully pulled by DC in the past.
