A Little History

The original Green Lantern, Alan Scott, made his debut in the 1940’s.

In 1959, the most well-known Green Lanter, Hal Jordan, would make his appearance. Hal was born to Martin and Jessica Jordan and was the middle of three children. Because his father was a test pilot, Hal developed a fascination with flying. Tragedy struck the Jordan’s when Martin died in a plane crash. Against his family’s wishes, Hal enlisted in the United States Air Force.

A few years after enlisted, a member of the Green Lantern Corps, Abin Sur, crash-landed his ship on Earth. Shortly after the crash, Abin Sur was found by Hal. The Green Lantern’s (3599 in total) are Galactic Police Officers charged with keeping peace in the galaxies. In the instance of the Green Lantern Corps, the ring that each member wears chooses the next Lantern.

Abin Sur’s chose Hal and Hal immediately became responsible for Sector 2814.

Aside from being a member of the Green Lantern Corps, Hal Jordan is one of the founding members of the Justice League of America. He founded the superteam along with the Flash, Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter.
