Peacock is bringing Grimm back, this time as a movie. The popular supernatural drama, which aired on NBC from 2011 to 2017, is being reimagined as a feature-length film.
Josh Berman, best known for creating Drop Dead Diva, is writing and producing the project alongside the original series’ creators, David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf.
Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner from Hazy Mills Productions, along with Universal Television, are also attached as executive producers.
Details about the plot and cast remain under wraps, but the movie is expected to connect to the original series while introducing new elements. This approach could cater to long-time fans of the show while also being accessible to new audiences. Some speculate the film could serve as a springboard for a larger franchise if it proves successful.
The original Grimm followed Nick Burkhardt, played by David Giuntoli, a Portland homicide detective who learns he is a Grimm—a guardian tasked with maintaining the balance between humanity and Wesen, mythical creatures living among us.
The show featured a memorable ensemble cast, including Silas Weir Mitchell, Russell Hornsby, Bitsie Tulloch, Sasha Roiz, and Bree Turner. It ran for six seasons, spanning more than 120 episodes, and became one of NBC’s standout Friday-night hits.
This isn’t the first time the franchise has explored a revival. In 2018, a spinoff series centered on a new Grimm was announced but never moved beyond the development stage. Now, with the movie in production, fans are hopeful for a proper continuation of the series’ rich mythology.
While there’s no release date yet for the Grimm movie, it’s clear that Peacock is betting on the enduring appeal of the franchise. Whether it brings back familiar faces or introduces new characters, the upcoming film promises to revisit the magical and dangerous world that made Grimm a cult favorite.
Both Deadline and Variety have confirmed the claims.
