The weirdest family in the galaxy is back to face the music! At the 2022 Comic Con Experience, commonly known as CCXP, in São Paulo, Marvel Studios revealed the first official teaser trailer for the third installment of the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
James Gunn wrote and directed the original Guardians of the Galaxy movie which was released in 2014. The movie was well-received and it made this homonymous superhero team the second most important team of the MCU, after the Avengers, at the time. The increase in popularity resulted in a sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017, and in 2018 and 2019, Guardians were a part of the MCU crossover events Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. They also made a brief appearance in this year’s Thor: Love and Thunder. Last month, we have also watched them in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which was released exclusively on Disney+.
Now, Guardians are gearing up for the final adventure in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, which will conclude the Guardians trilogy. Check the first official teaser trailer down below:
Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, the team lost one of its members, Gamora, who was murdered by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. In Avengers: Endgame, however, Zoe Saldaña reprised the role thanks to all the time-traveling mumbo-jumbo, and now, as it was teased at the end of Endgame, Peter Quill will try to find her.
As for the other Guardians, they are all still there, Drax is still weird and funny. Nebula still takes everything way too seriously, Rocket seems to have found someone he really cares about outside the team, and Groot has grown up a bit, but he still isn’t adult like the original Groot from the first movie was. And thanks to the recently released The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, now we know that Mantis is Peter’s sister.
Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Debicki, Sylvester Stallone, and Sean Gunn will all reprise their roles from previous Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Will Poulter will debut as Adam Warlock, Chukwudi Iwuji will star as the High Evolutionary, and Maria Bakalova, who starred as Cosmo the Spacedog in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will also return to the role in Volume 3.
James Gunn has confirmed this will be his last Marvel movie as he was recently named co-CEO of DC Studios which will need to forge a real plan for DC’s shared universe. He will remain committed to Marvel Studios until May 5, 2023, when Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 will be released in theaters.
