When James Gunn & Peter Safran rebooted the DCEU into a newly dubbed “DCU” they announced a plethora of projects, both movies and live-action shows. One of the shows announced was ‘Lanterns’ and after months of silence, Gunn finally updated us on the project.
The director confirmed some recent rumors regarding the writing team of the show. The Lanterns DCU series is assembling a talented group of writers, including Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof, who have crafted an impressive pilot script and bible. He welcomed Chris and Damon to the DC Studios family, joining long-time member Tom King.
Yes, it’s true. The Lanterns DCU series is putting together a crack team of writers, based on a wonderful pilot script and bible by Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof. A hearty welcome to Chris and @damonlindelof as they join the DC Studios family (no welcome necessary for old @tomking_tk, who has been here nearly since inception).
Following the announcement, one fan going by the username @AkkiZac019 on X posted a series of screenshots highlighting Gunn’s old comments targeting Lindelof in which he calls the writer, a satan, a scam artist, and other insults, presumably due to the ending of highly popular mystery show ‘Lost.’
Lindelof is close to Satan in my book because of the end of Lost. He’s the Uri Gellar of storytellers, a total scam artist with no integrity whatsoever. And a liar.
We don’t know whether Gunn was joking about it, or whether he was serious but yikes… Gunn also directed criticism toward Ridley Scott…
‘Lanterns’ was described as a cosmic detective story in the vein of ‘True Detective,’ and some recent rumors claim that the studio is looking for a younger but fairly famous actor to star as John Stewart, joining Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner.
Except for that, not much is known about the show. Hopefully, Lindelof and Gunn will work out differences between them and successfully collaborate on this project.
