HBO is set to release an exciting new original film this spring, written, directed, and executive produced by Jesse Armstrong, the creator of the critically acclaimed series Succession. This marks Armstrong’s feature directorial debut, with production kicking off this month in Park City, Utah.

The film’s intriguing premise revolves around a group of billionaire friends who come together against the backdrop of an ongoing international crisis. The story promises to explore themes of wealth, power, and ambition—topics Armstrong has masterfully tackled in the past.

The film boasts an impressive ensemble of talented actors, including:

  • Steve Carell (The Four Seasons, The Patient) as Randall
  • Jason Schwartzman (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Bored to Death) as Hugo Van Yalk (Souper)
  • Cory Michael Smith (Saturday Night, May December) as Venis
  • Ramy Youssef (Poor Things, More Feelings) as Jeff

Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming and Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, expressed her enthusiasm for the project:

“We’re ecstatic to be back in business with the singular talent Jesse Armstrong following our successful collaboration on Succession. Once again, Jesse pushes boundaries with a bold exploration of modern greed, power, and male ambition. The fact that this project also serves as his directorial debut makes it even more exciting. We can’t wait to share this timely film with the world.”

Armstrong himself shared his thoughts, expressing both excitement and a touch of humor:

“I’m curious to see if being around so many brilliant actors and directors on Succession has taught me anything. Let’s hope so! I’m incredibly grateful to Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi, and the entire HBO team for their support in bringing this film to life. With such an incredible cast and crew, I couldn’t ask for a better team to take on this project.”

In addition to Armstrong, the film’s executive producers include Frank Rich, Lucy Prebble, Jon Brown, Tony Roche, Will Tracy, Mark Mylod, and Jill Footlick. With such an experienced and talented production team, expectations for this film are high.

As anticipation builds, fans of Succession and compelling storytelling will be eager to see what Armstrong brings to the big screen in his directorial debut. More details, including a release date, are expected soon.
