‘Heated Rivalry’ Pulls Off a Hat Trick With More Seasons and a Movie Reportedly in the Works
Few shows have gone from niche streaming title to global conversation as quickly as ‘Heated Rivalry‘. The Crave hockey romance premiered on November 28, 2025, and closed its 6-episode first season with the finale ‘The Cottage’ on December 26. Fans nicknamed that holiday drop Cottagemas.
The numbers backed up the buzz. The series became Crave’s most-watched original, and in the US it landed among the top 5 scripted debuts on HBO Max in its launch year. Crave renewed it for more episodes in December 2025, and stars Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie have said they signed on for 3 seasons.
Now there is a bigger surprise on the table. Sources tell Deadline that ‘Heated Rivalry’ has not just 1 but 2 six-episode seasons on the way, plus a movie. The 2 seasons are reportedly filming back-to-back and are set to wrap at the end of November or in early December, with a standalone film shooting in December.
A rep for Crave said there are no projects to confirm. Neither creator Jacob Tierney nor the streamer has publicly acknowledged a pickup for a third season, so the news stays in report territory for now.
Speculation about a double shoot has been building for months. A leaked August Cameo video from recurring guest star Dylan Walsh appeared to suggest the new season would run 12 episodes. Walsh later wrote on his profile that a video had gone viral and got him in trouble.

Tierney pushed back last month in a SiriusXM interview with Andy Cohen. He confirmed that, like the first season, the second would have 6 episodes, and he said filming would be done by the end of the year without spelling out what the shoot covers. A pair of 6-episode seasons shot together would square the 12-episode chatter with that confirmation.
The timeline also fits earlier production listings. Those had filming running from August 10 through December 2, based mainly at Toronto soundstages with location work in Montreal and Ottawa. The second season is still expected to premiere in spring 2027, with April the likely launch.
Details on the film are thin. Reports indicate it is expected to center on Scott and Kip, played by François Arnaud and Robbie G.K., the other couple introduced in the first season, with additional characters from the series appearing too. It is reportedly meant to arrive the year after its December shoot.
That would be a natural next step for a show whose world is bigger than its two leads. Tierney has said ‘Heated Rivalry’ will always be centered on Shane and Ilya, but he has also talked about exploring the wider universe now that an audience has proven it is there. A feature focused on Scott and Kip would be a clean way to do exactly that.
The source material suggests there is room for more. The second season adapts Rachel Reid’s ‘The Long Game’, and Tierney has hinted that he may not cover all of it, noting there is a lot of material. Michael Goldbach is co-writing alongside him.
For viewers, a possible third season would make sense of the 3-season deals the leads have already signed. It would also avoid a long gap between installments, which is a real risk when a show becomes a breakout hit overnight. Shooting everything in one window keeps the cast and crew together while the momentum is high.
There is still a lot Crave has not confirmed, from episode counts for any third season to when and where a film would land. Until the streamer says more, the safest read is that the cameras are rolling and the plans are bigger than anyone expected. For a series that began as a small Canadian streaming bet, that is quite the hat trick.
