Hellgate, Spider-Man’s Biggest Enemy Yet, Arrives in a New Era of ‘Amazing Spider-Man’
Hellgate is making his first full appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #1, coming this April. Written by Joe Kelly, with artwork by Pepe Larraz and John Romita Jr., this fresh villain promises to be a game-changer for Spider-Man. Hellgate, described as a ‘mysterious adversary,’ is set on breaking Peter Parker like no one ever has.
This isn’t the first time Hellgate has been teased. We got a small glimpse of him in Amazing Spider-Man #65, but his true origins and motivations will slowly unfold over the first year of this new series. What we do know is that Hellgate has incredible strength and is on a relentless mission to challenge Spider-Man, both in costume and as Peter Parker.
John Romita Jr. has revealed the first full artwork of Hellgate, along with some behind-the-scenes looks at his design. Marvel describes this villain as bringing some of the most brutal battles Spider-Man has ever faced. If you’re curious to see what this new era holds, you can already preorder Amazing Spider-Man #1.
The debut issue kicks things off with Spider-Man juggling personal struggles and a new threat. The story begins with a chaotic encounter with Rhino, but that’s just the tip of a larger plot involving an unseen villain who has been quietly working behind the scenes. And yes, Norman Osborn is involved, though the details are still under wraps.
Amazing Spider-Man #1 will have several covers, including variants by artists like Ryan Stegman, Simone Di Meo, Frank Miller, and more. This issue will set the stage for Hellgate’s arrival and the challenges ahead for Peter Parker. It’s shaping up to be a wild ride for Spider-Man fans.
