Fans of ‘The Boys’ are buzzing after a rare, long-forgotten screen test of Antony Starr for the role of James Bond from 2005 was leaked online. Alongside other potential Bond candidates like Henry Cavill, Rupert Friend, and Sam Worthington, Starr’s audition is getting a lot of attention—and it’s safe to say fans are loving it!

The four-and-a-half-minute video was uploaded on YouTube by Ron South, and it takes us back to when Starr, best known for his portrayal of the terrifying Homelander in The Boys, was trying out for the role of 007. This screen test likely took place when the filmmakers were preparing for ‘Casino Royale,’ the 2006 film that marked Daniel Craig’s debut as James Bond. At that time, Pierce Brosnan had already wrapped up his run as the iconic spy in 2002, and a new face was being considered for the role.

In the video, Starr is seen reading lines from the ‘GoldenEye’ script, where Brosnan’s Bond is having a conversation with the character Xenia Onatopp. It’s clear that Starr was being considered for the part, and watching the footage now is fascinating for Bond fans and ‘The Boys’ viewers alike.

The response to Starr’s screen test has been largely positive, with many fans finding it refreshing to hear his natural New Zealand accent in the audition. Some fans have even compared his performance to that of 70s Bond actor Roger Moore, who brought a certain charm and lightheartedness to the role.

Judging by the comments, it’s clear that no matter what role Starr takes on, fans will always associate him with the terrifying and complex Homelander. Although he had roles in various TV shows and movies before landing the role of Homelander, it seems that Starr’s portrayal of the villain has left a permanent mark on his career.

Starr is set to return to the role of Homelander in the upcoming final season of ‘The Boys,’ which is currently filming. Fans are eagerly awaiting the last chapter of this popular Prime Video series, which is expected to air in 2026. Starr will be joined by co-stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, and others as the series wraps up.
