How ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Paves the Way for Chris Evans’ Return as a Villain!

Scheduled for release on February 14, 2025, Captain America: Brave New World will feature a significant twist as Anthony Mackie steps into the role of Captain America, taking over from Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers.

While fans are excited to see Sam Wilson rise within the Marvel ranks, many still long for Chris Evans’ return, unable to envision anyone else as their beloved superhero. Considering Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU as a villain (Doctor Doom), there’s a theory that Chris Evans could also make a comeback—but in a very different role than fans might expect!

Captain America: Brave New World will bring together a mix of familiar faces and new characters. Several characters from The Incredible Hulk will make a return, and the film will also introduce the Serpent Society, led by Seth Voelker, a.k.a. Sidewinder, portrayed by Giancarlo Esposito. The Serpent Society is set to become the MCU’s “next HYDRA,” which opens up intriguing possibilities for Steve Rogers’ character.

If you recall the iconic 2017 comic book storyline, Secret Empire, you’ll remember this unforgettable moment:

The moment when Captain America uttered “Hail Hydra,” revealing himself as a Hydra agent who would help the organization take over the United States, was a pivotal scene in Marvel’s recent history. However, it was later revealed that this wasn’t the real Steve Rogers but a brainwashed version, with his memories altered by the sentient Cosmic Cube, Kobik, under the influence of Red Skull’s clone.

This leads us to our theory: with the Serpent Society’s introduction, there’s a strong possibility that Steve Rogers could return, but as a brainwashed, villainous agent of Voelker’s organization. Such a twist would make for an epic comeback and a compelling storyline, especially with Robert Downey Jr. returning to Marvel in a similar fashion.

Of course, some adjustments would be needed, given that Cap is now older, but the MCU could certainly make it work if they chose to pursue this angle.

What do you think of our theory? Would you like to see this happen in the movie? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
