How Old Was Darth Plagueis & How Old Is He in ‘The Acolyte’

The final episode of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ aired this week and presented us with not one but two massive cameos – that of Darth Plagueis and Master Yoda. Headland teased another Sith Lord in the show several weeks ago, and even though fans have been holding hope that it was Darth Plagueis, the cameo still shocked.

Now considering that ‘The Acolyte’ is an official part of Disney canon, fans have been trying to figure out how old was Darth Plagueis during the events of ‘The Acolyte’ and where Darth Tenebrous fits into the story.

‘The Acolyte’ takes place 100 years before the events of ‘The Phantom Menace’ in 132 BBY to be more exact. Plagueis’ age was never stated in live-action or referenced but in the book ‘Star Wars: Darth Plagueis’ written by James Luceno it’s stated that Darth Tenebrous arranged for Plagueis’ birth sometime between 147 and 120 BBY. Now if we take the book as canon and official source, assuming Plagueis was born in 147 BBY he should be around 15 years born during the events of ‘The Acolyte,’ or younger….

You can point out that the creature we’ve seen in the cave doesn’t exactly look like a teen, and it likely isn’t a teen, so this information shouldn’t be taken as canon before it’s confirmed by either Lucasfilm or ‘The Acolyte’ showrunner.

As far as how old Darth Plagueis’ was when he died, that also remains a matter of debate. The exact year during which he died was never stated but it is assumed that he was killed by Palpatine before 32 BBY, taking this year as a reference point and taking the book information we can conclude that Plagueis’ was around 115 years old (or younger) when he died.

This sounds like a somewhat accurate timeline since Muuns as a species, live on average more than a century. But I need to stress once again, that most of this information is unverified as far as the current canon goes, and we will have to wait for more information by Lucasfilm or Leslye Headland.

If this age and timeline are correct, this would put Darth Tenebrous as an active Sith Lord during the events of ‘The Acolyte,’ still training young Plagueis who will eventually succeed him.

Headland revealed that she does have a plan on how to connect the events of ‘The Acolyte’ with Plagueis and Palpatine but that it would be messy and complicated.
