Ezra Bridger is one of the most interesting characters we met in ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ and he is set to appear in his live-action debut in ‘Ahsoka.’ Introduced as the main character of ‘Rebels,’ Ezra had the Force sensitivity of a powerful Jedi, which was why Kanan Jarrus was prompted to train him in the ways of the Force. As such, Ezra steadily grew stronger as a Force user and became a true Jedi in everything but the title. So, how powerful is Ezra Bridger?

Ezra is powerful in the Force and can communicate with animals better than almost any Force wielder we’ve seen. He is also skilled in telekinesis. However, Ezra lagged behind in his lightsaber training and skills as he is nowhere near the skill levels of other Jedi in lightsaber combat.

One thing that makes Ezra a refreshing character is that he doesn’t have the same kind of overpowered potential as the other Force wielders we’ve seen in Star Wars. Instead, he has proven himself strong and special in his own right, as he knows his strengths and weaknesses. So, with that said, let’s talk more about how strong Ezra Bridger is.

Ezra’s Force connection is strong and unique

Introduced in ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ as the main character, Ezra Bridger showed much improvement in his abilities as a Force wielder compared to other characters. The fact that Kanan Jarrus, a Jedi-trained Rebel, could sense Ezra’s sensitivity to the Force convinced him to give training Ezra a shot, as it was clear that Ezra had a strong connection to the Force.

As the storyline of ‘Rebels’ progressed, it became clear that his Force abilities were stronger than most Jedi and quite possibly his own master. Ezra showed great promise in the use of Force telekinesis because he became strong enough that he was able to match Kanan’s prowess in the use of this technique.

Eventually, Ezra’s telekinesis became so strong that he could use it to wrap a Force bubble around him and Thrawn when the Purrgil took them to hyperspace. He needed to wrap themselves in a bubble because the windows of Thrawn’s ship, the Chimaera, were broken. As such, Ezra and Thrawn would have been killed in the hyperspace jump had he not created a bubble to protect them.

But Ezra’s true skills as a Force user could be seen in his natural affinity with other living creatures. While the Jedi are known to be able to use the Force to communicate with beasts and other animals, Ezra was a natural in this ability because he could use it seemingly at will and even against other creatures that were difficult to communicate with due to their savagery. He was also much more skilled than Kanan at communicating with other living creatures.

Ezra’s proficiency in using this ability became so strong that he could communicate with an entire pod of Purrgil, which are gigantic space creatures that can travel through hyperspace at will. He commanded the king of the Purrgil to take the Chimaera away from Lothal. As such, Ezra is likely the strongest when communicating with other living creatures.

Of course, it is also interesting to note that Ezra’s abilities are unique because not all Jedi are skilled in animal communication. Force wielders with specific specialties are rare, but we have seen quite a few. For instance, Cal Kestis’ ability to replay events in the past by touching a specific object is stronger than most other Jedi.

In that regard, Ezra’s abilities in the Force were advanced for someone his age, given that he was around 17 or 18 when he disappeared at the end of Rebels. And he may be stronger than most Jedi when it comes to the use of the Force.

But his lightsaber skills are lacking

Even though Ezra’s skills as a Force user were always on par with some of the best Jedi we’ve seen, the thing about him is that he was never really the most skilled lightsaber duelist. Sure enough, he mastered the fundamentals and was even able to teach the basic lightsaber forms to Sabine. But there was no instance wherein Ezra’s skills as a duelist stood out.

Ezra tried his hand at Kanan’s Form III: Soresu before trying the famous Form V: Shien and Djem So that the Skywalkers often use. He struggled with Form V initially before mastering the art of deflecting blaster bolts using this lightsaber form. However, he admitted that he preferred to use Form IV: Ataru after he saw a recording of Anakin Skywalker teaching Ahsoka this form.

But while Ezra did indeed improve as a lightsaber duelist, he struggled to stand out in this department because he was never even strong enough to take on and defeat an Inquisitor alone. When Sabine tried to learn how to use the Darksaber, Ezra couldn’t overpower her in their duel. And when he fought Darth Vader, Ezra lasted only a few seconds before the Sith Lord attempted to kill him.

So, while Ezra was strong in the Force and skilled in using different Force techniques, he wasn’t as strong in using a lightsaber. It could be because he no longer had to focus on lightsaber combat after Darth Vader and the Inquisitors were no longer in the picture. As such, he focused more on using his lightsaber to deflect blaster bolts during the events of seasons 3 and 4.

How does Ezra compare to other strong Star Wars characters?

Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker’s potential in the Force was always only second to his father, Anakin Skywalker. Of course, we also saw Luke’s skill in using a lightsaber, especially after defeating Darth Vader in their duel. In that regard, Luke is far stronger than Ezra Bridger, and his lightsaber skills are better. But Ezra progressed faster than Luke in using the Force even though his ceiling was nowhere near Luke’s.

Darth Vader

Of course, we know that Darth Vader was the immovable object that struck fear into the hearts of everyone in the galaxy, Ezra Bridger included. He was always one of the strongest lightsaber duelists around and was extremely powerful in using the Force. Ezra is nowhere near Vader’s strength and skills because not even the duo of Ezra and Kanan could give Vader a good workout. And when Ezra faced Vader alone, he couldn’t last more than a few seconds.

Ahsoka Tano

Ahsoka Tano was trained in the ways of the Force by Anakin Skywalker and was always considered far stronger than Kanan Jarrus. The fact that she gave Vader a hard time during their duel on Malachor is proof of her skills as a lightsaber duelist and as a Force user. So, because of that, it goes without saying that there’s a huge gap between Ahsoka and Ezra in terms of power and strength.
