‘Immortal Thor,’ written by Al Ewing, debuted in August 2023 as part of Marvel’s “Who Are the G.O.D.S.?” storyline. Ewing, known for his acclaimed work on “Immortal Hulk,” crafts a story that really digs deep into Thor’s mythical roots and pits him against elder gods.

The latest issue ‘Immortal Thor’ #17 however sees him facing perhaps the most dangerous enemy yet – himself.

The story picks up after Thor faces off against his old enemies—Grey Gargoyle, Radioactive Man, Mister Hyde, and Cobra—who team up to take him down for Dario Agger.

The Grey Gargoyle turns Thor to stone, and Hyde smashes him into pieces. However, while Grey Gargoyle regrets the possible consequences of killing an Asgardian, Hyde is unbothered and eagerly awaits Thor’s body to return to its original form.

Thor is meanwhile trapped in a dark part of the cosmos, where his alter-ego, Donald Blake, waits for an opportunity to destroy the world that Blake never belonged to.

Donald Blake is a human alter-ego created by Odin for Thor to live as while exiled on Earth. Blake is a doctor who, when struck by a storm, transforms into the mighty Thor by striking his walking stick, which becomes Mjolnir.

Over time, Blake becomes disillusioned and bitter, eventually becoming a dangerous character in his own right, particularly when he separates from Thor, turning into a villain seeking revenge.

This is why in ‘Immortal Thor’ Blake is the ultimate fear and test that stands before the God of Thunder.

Blake attempts to kill Thor by sending an army of demons, hoping to escape the void where his spirit is trapped. Just as Thor is about to die, he is saved and pulled back to life. To the shock of his enemies, Thor’s body reassembles and he is fully revived.

Thor defeats the four villains, sending them fleeing back to Dario Agger. It is then revealed that the Enchantress used her magic to reassemble Thor’s shattered body, saving him from death.
