Insider Reports Describe Gunn’s ‘Superman’ as Being Completely Different than Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’

For more than a year at this point, it’s been widely known that Gunn is building his own cinematic universe following the failure of DCEU. What started as a largely ambitious project attempt to emulate the success of MCU, eventually turned into more trouble than it was worth so the execs decided to move in a different direction by appointing Gunn and Safran as the new co-CEOs of DC Studios.

DCU is still some time away from being launched, the universe will technically launch this December with the release of ‘Creature Commandos,’ but both Gunn and Safran stated that ‘Superman’ bound to be released on July 11, 2025, is the true start of the DCU.

Principal photography for the film started on February 29, 2024, in the Adventdalen valley in Svalbard, Norway, which coincides with Superman’s canonical birthday. Filming for the movie began at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 8, 2024, and was expected to continue until August 2, 2024.

Production also included locations in Cleveland and Cincinnati, Ohio, from April 1 to August 23, with filming at various Cleveland sites starting on June 24 and concluding on July 16. The final segment of filming took place in Cincinnati, wrapping up on July 30, 2024.

In that period we’ve seen plenty of set leaks, some of which were received with praise, and some that were criticized by fans. Gunn’s production was mostly criticized for suits looking extremely cheap. But, when it comes to the movie as a whole, next to nothing is known about it, but some of the recent insider reports fill us with optimism.

Notable industry insider, Daniel Richtman recently shared what he knows about the movie, the scooper said that he has heard that the movie is fantastic and the exact opposite of Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel.’

[Superman] is fantastic, and a complete shift to hardcore sci-fi and fantasy, the exact opposite of Man of Steel. It’s set in a world very different from ours and far removed from the DCEU. Heroes have been around for ages, and we’ll see how it affected this world’s history and has shaped the DCU. […] The DCU will feature various projects set across different timelines, not just present day. So more in line with the approach of Star Wars than Marvel.

What Richtman is claiming aligns with our earlier reports that Gunn is going for a more cheery and more classical approach to Superman, more in line with Christopher Reeve movies.
