Kevin Feige Gives Fans Hope That Iron Man & Captain America Could Return to the MCU, but It All Depends on ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

It’s no secret that the entirety of MCU’s Phase 4 had been the lowest-rated in franchise history. Following the ‘Endgame’ conclusion it seems like the MCU has reached its narrative and emotional peak, and everything paled in comparison.

That’s not the say that the writing has been…weird in some instances, but it was definitely to be expected that ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’ wouldn’t be easily surpassed.

Following the events of ‘Endgame’ two extremely important and beloved characters have seemingly left the franchise forever. RDJ’s Iron Man, who dies after he uses the Infinity Gauntlet to banish Thanos forever, and Evans’ Steve Roger aka Captain America who decides to live out his years with Peggy in the alternate timeline.

Now Feige already stated several times that bringing Tony is out of the question. This statement makes sense, it would undo all the emotional impact, and completely remove all the risk and stakes from the storytelling, something that seems to be happening quite often in Multiverse Saga.

However, it seems that Feige is now considering bringing them, back or at least entertaining the concept in his head. As he stated in his recent interview with DiscussingFilm, it can be done, but it needs to be good, using Wolverine as an example:

That’s the key, right? How do you do it in a way that maintains what has come before, and in a great way? And we’ve been spending, you know, the last two-plus years figuring that out for Wolverine. So, what’s to come? We’ll see. We’re just proud that we, I think, have figured it out for Wolverine. I think Hugh’s appearance and starring role in [Deadpool & Wolverine] is a great sign that it can be done — if great care is taken.

It was recently revealed that Feige opposed Jackman’s return to the role of Wolverine due to the character having a perfect sendoff in ‘Logan,’ apparently the head of Marvel Studios changed his mind seeing how good the story of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ turned out to be.

No one ever doubted that both Iron Man and Captain America could return through variants, but it might further anger and disappoint fans who are already sick of them as it is.
