DC Extended Universe is expanding. Recently, we got a new trailer for the upcoming Flash movie starring Ezra Miller. The movie has been developing since 2014 and finally got a new trailer and release date. The Flash movie will be released on June 16, 2023, and besides the main storyline, we will see many cool cameos that excite many fans. In the movie, Barry Allen travels back in time to save his mother and change the timeline’s events, which will have catastrophic consequences. On his journey, he encounters a few familiar characters of the DC Universe. This article will discuss if Christian Bale’s Batman will feature in the new Flash movie.
Christian Bale’s Batman probably won’t appear in the Flash movie. Despite announced cameos of Ben Affleck’s and Michael Keaton’s versions of Batman, Bale’s version of Dark Knight was never confirmed by Warner Bros. Studios. That is another reason why Christian Bale probably won’t appear in the Flash movie – Bale expressed reluctance to replay The Dark Knight if Christopher Nolan isn’t involved in the project. There are rumors of more notable cameos in the movie, but Bale’s version of Batman from the notable Nolan trilogy most likely won’t feature in the upcoming DC Universe.
We will discuss this topic by mentioning confirmed cameos in the movie, Flash’s storyline, and Batman’s role. If you are interested, stay with us until the end.
Confirmed cameos in the Flash movie
Before we start discussing the main topic of the movie, we need to establish the premise of The Flash movie. It was confirmed that the movie’s main storyline would feature a notable DC comic book event, Flashpoint, in which Barry Allen traveled back in time to save his mother from murder, which coincidentally created all kinds of problems in the timeline. Most notably, Barry accidentally created a new timeline where everything was different. One of the most significant differences lies in Batman’s origin story, where actually young Bruce is gunned down in the alley, and his parents survive.
Bruce’s father, Thomas Wayne, becomes Batman in that timeline but is vastly different from his son. Besides different Dark Knight, everything and everyone “suffered” differences, which prompted Barry to “fix” everything he caused. The event caused a reboot of the DC timeline, which was part of the New 52, and it created the new or established most character of DC, Wildstorm, and Vertigo comic book characters.
Besides adapting to the silver screen a notable DC comics storyline, director Andy Muschietti (It movies) and new co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn, decided to use The Flash movie as a soft reboot of the whole DC Extended Universe. Zach Snyder’s Universe is being replaced by the new generation of DC movies and series that will have much better quality and purpose through future projects. The DC Extended Universe era didn’t produce that much good content, and this movie, despite its difficulties, could kickstart DC Studios’ renaissance.
We already mentioned that The Flash movie would feature the Flashpoint storyline from the DC comics, which meant that the movie would feature some familiar faces from the main or alternate universe. Of course, this includes all previous movies from DC Extended Universe, and even the DC movies from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, notably the most famous DC character ever, Batman.
Furthermore, we will see new characters that will debut in the new DC Universe, most notably Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, played by Sasha Calle, who will have a major role in Barry Allen’s journey.
What excites fans is Michael Keaton’s return to replay his version of Batman that featured in the movies Batman and Batman Returns. Of course, that could be different in The Flash movie, with some fans speculating that Keaton will play Thomas Wayne, the Flashpoint version of Batman.
There are a few more undisclosed characters that Warner Bros. didn’t yet confirm and are still kept under wraps, particularly Saoirse-Monica Jackson’s, Rudy Mancuso’s, and Luke Brandon Field’s characters.
Of course, Ben Affleck will also reprise his role of Batman in The Flash movie, which will probably be his last appearance as The Dark Knight – the same goes for Michael Keaton and his Batman.
We have confirmed Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck’s versions of Batman, but what about the most notable Batman we enjoyed watching, the one from the successful Christopher Nolan trilogy, Christian Bale’s Batman? Let’s find out!
Will Christian Bale’s Batman feature in the Flash movie?
First, this information stems from Warner Bros. Studios’ official sources and ones provided to the public during the development of The Flash movie, with the official trailer included. The Dark Knight Trilogy is the most notable and best movie adaptation of one superhero character. The movie’s director, Christopher Nolan, was heavily involved in the adaptation of Bruce Wayne’s character and his superhero alter ego, and he provided us with excellence.
Christian Bale is responsible for the amazing portrayal of Bruce Wayne and Dark Knight, and other characters went down as popular culture sensations. Late Heath Ledger portrayed Batman’s villain and foe, Joker, in the best possible way and even got an Oscar for his amazing performance.
When fans heard that the Flash movie would feature some cameos from past projects, they got really excited. The announced return of Michael Keaton only progressed the rumors of Christian Bale returning to portray his Batman again. Most fans agree that Bale’s Bruce Wayne and Batman are the best character adaptation, and even the possibility of the famous actor returning to replay the character one last time is really exciting. However, it seems that speculation will remain a dream cameo only because Warner Bros. didn’t confirm anything about Bale and his Batman.
Despite the interesting and familiar scene of Batman strolling around the city of his famous Batcycle, this speculation has been debunked because Ben Affleck’s Batman is featured in that scene. Still, the familiar and similar designs of Batman’s vehicles still hold hope for some fans that Bale will return and join Keaton and Affleck in The Flash movie.
However, this next statement of Christian Bale himself might be the “nail in the coffin” of this rumor. Namely, in his interview with Screen Rant in 2022, Bale confirmed he wouldn’t portray Batman without Christopher Nolan’s involvement in the project. He continued:
“In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, “You know what, I’ve got another story to tell.” And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.”
Bale is known as an actor who sticks to his principles, so we can’t expect Nolan’s Dark Knight to feature in The Flash movie. Nevertheless, despite this disappointing news, we will say that The Flash movie presents us with great potential for DC Universe under the guidance of James Gunn as the new CEO of DC Studios. It can only get better at this point, and The Flash movie should be that catalyst.
